WHAT'S NEW IN PLETT - 8 DECEMBER 2011 www.helloplett.co.za

There is a great feeling of fun and young energy as more young people joined the festivities on Friday. There is a full program on the beach, at the Clubs and at the new Rage Village at Keurbooms Caravan Park. The backpackers and many other accommodation venues are enjoying a great pre-season boom. Its getting bigger and better every year. Its been super to see all the folk who have welcomed the students with joy and also to see the businesses going out of their way to offer special prices for the Student Festival period. Our Community Policing Forum and Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association are working hard to minimise crime, but where crowds are, sadly also are criminals, so please be aware.. PBCPA HOTLINE 082 251 8134 A Big welcome to all our other visitors too... Always a pleasure to have you sharing our beautiful Bay with us.

Hot off the press news is that The Otter African Trail Run presented by Hi-Tec has been nominated for Best Sponsorship of a Sports Event or Competition in the 2011 Virgin Active Sport Industry Awards. JOHNNY ENGLISH REBORN Finally, after an eight year break, Johnny English is back. MI7's most notorious secret agent has been honing his skills like Batman in the Far East, becoming a master of the martial arts. However when the Chinese Premier's life is threatened, MI7 scramble to find him and put him on the case, where he can make like James Bond and Jason Bourne. The film continues to spoof well-known recent films as Atkinson mugs for the camera and does his usual hapless slapstick routine. CAST: Rowan Atkinson, Dominic West, Gillian Anderson, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Kaluuya, Richard Schiff, Ben Miller HAPPY FEET TWO The followup to 2006's Oscar-

winning movie produces more of the same for a new bunch of kiddies. Mumble's son Eric is having trouble fitting in as he can't dance or sing, so he and two buddies go walk-about, and learn a few things. When dad finds them to take them back, they discover that calving ice-bergs have trapped their flock, so they have to make a plan using other animals they've met to effect a res-cue. Luckily dancing helps. Voices of Ava Acres, Elijah Wood, Pink, Carlos Alazraqui, Lombardo Boyar, Jeffrey Garcia, Johnny A. Sanchez, Sofia Vergara, Robin Williams, Hank Azaria ABDUCTION Jacob escapes from The Twilight Saga and headlines this action thriller which has him competing in style with Tom Cruise and Jason Bourne. A young man discovers that his parents are not the people who raised him, but in fact CIA agents. He unfortunately has a list of bad CIA agents which two differ-ent groups of people (the goodies and the baddies) want, and both groups come after him. Luckily mom appears to lend a hand to keep him and his pretty girl-next-door girl-friend out of trouble as the action and thrills kick in. A big hand of applause for Kran-shoek , for the fact that they stand up. P.W. Botha said “Stand on your stand point. Say No to crime.” Jenny.

Dit is lekker as ‘n jongmens sy graad kry. Om deel te wees van Helpende Hand is harde werk want daar is niks romanties aan armoede nie, maar dit is LEKKER om deel te wees van die oplossing en van hoop. Conservation Corner Save Ban-tamsklip! Bantamsklip is on the Overberg coast in the Western Cape, where a Nuclear Power Plant is planned to be built. The Coast of South Africa is a sensitive area due to its biodiversity. This area is an important area for the Southern Right Whales, Dolphins (Humpback, Bottlenose, and Common), Sharks, Seals and Penguins. The African Penguins and the Humpback Dolphins are both considered endangered species. The Southern Right Whales use the Coast line to mate, and care for their young. The water released for cooling the Nuclear Power Plant, will be approximately 12°C higher than the initial water temperature.

This thermal transmission will immensely affect the behavior of the marine animals. There will be a steady release of chorine to keep barnacles off the pipes that suck in the water. Abalone and other species will be sucked into these pipes. Eskom has not clarified how they will dispose of any chemical waste. We cannot risk ruining this Marine hot spot. Please visit http://www.savebantamsklip.org/ for more information, and sign the petition! -Caroline Johansen WOODING’S CATTERY. Situated on Plett Airport Road. 044 532 7835 / 073 622 8322. Letter via the Editor I don't quite know how to start this letter but to say that I cannot believe that this still happens after all the warnings we have heard, seen on the radio and TV. On Saturday morning, my daughter and I, shopping at the Market Square when we heard of the intercom that there was a baby locked in a bakkie outside, screaming, could the owner of the bakkie please go and check. My daughter and I looked at each other, dropped our goods and ran outside. I could not believe it. There was about a 10 month little boy locked in a 4x4 bakkie. All the windows closed and it was very hot outside. He was red, sweating and screaming. We checked the doors, all locked, so my daughter climbed through the small back window of the canopy and managed to get the 2 inter-leading windows open. The

heat that hit her, as she reached to the side door, was unbearable, she said. I opened the door and the little baby reached for me as I tried to get his seatbelt unclipped. He was sobbing by then, it broke my heart. He did not know me but he just wanted me to get him out of there. I ran inside the shop to get some cool air on him. The alarm of the bakkie went off as I opened the door and a few minutes later the dad came to see what was going on. My daughter had a few words with him and then I came out and also had a few words with him. He said that the child was asleep in the bakkie so he left him there and asked another child to check on him every 5 minutes. I could not believe it. Please parents, Do not leave your children in the Car for whatever reason. I also just want to thank the person who alerted the manager about this childs plight. The Day Family

Its definitely Hotter ! Global temperatures in 2011 are currently the tenth highest on record since 1850 when records were first kept, a report by the World Meteoro-logical Organization (WMO) re-vealed . The report also showed that 13 of the warmest years have occurred in the past 15 years since 1997, lead-ing to a significant drop in Arctic sea ice and its lowest levels this year. Speaking to reporters at the cli-mate change conference, COP17, WMO deputy secretary general Jerry Lengoasa said the statistics were an indication that climate change “is real and is upon us”. “Our role is to provide the scien-tific knowledge to inform action by decision makers. Our science is solid and it proves unequivocally that the world is warming and that this warming is due to human activi-ties,” Lengoasa said. The WMO report also paints a bleak picture of how concentrations of toxic gases in the atmosphere have reached new heights in recent years. “They are very rapidly approaching levels consistent with a 2 - 2.4 de-gree centigrade rise in average temperatures, which scientists be-lieve could trigger far reaching and irreversible changes in our earth, biosphere and oceans.” It also notes that severe droughts have hit parts of east Africa in late 2010 and these continued through 2011. The most severely affected areas included Kenya, Western Somalia and some southern bor-ders of Ethiopia. Linda Makuleni, chief executive at SA Weather Service, said South Africa was not spared of the devas-tating impact of the changing cli-mate, warning that the country could see more severe weather patterns in the coming years. “There is definitely an indication that our temperatures are changing drastically, looking at the rainfall patterns we are witnessing, the severe droughts in the Eastern Cape and our research shows that these will continue,” Makuleni said. The WMO and several non-governmental organisations called on the negotiators gathered in Dur-ban to make use of scientific infor-

mation as they deliberated on an appropriate solution to the climate crisis. BuaNews SAVANNALANDS KENNELS & CATTERY Superior accommodation, individual atten-tion & playtime, premium care. Smile Foundation is doing good work for Plett Children. This uplifting report was shared with us by one of our readers to whom many thanks. Doctors help Plettenberg Bay boy to breathe by Rusana Philander Doctors at the Red Cross Hospital have operated on a four-year-old boy from Plettenberg Bay to save his life. Christiano Adams, who had a problematic jaw joint that cut off his air supply, can breathe normally again. And after years in trying to find out why Adams had difficulty in breathing, doctors at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital discovered that he had a condition called micrognathia, meaning that he had a fused jaw joint. The condition caused his jaw not to grow.

PBCPA Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association SAPS, CPF (community Policing Forum) and PBCPA members work-ing together for a safe environment for locals, matric students and visi-tors alike. A few months ago Adams underwent surgery through which growth of his jaw bone was stimulated. The surgery, a mandibular distraction, was sponsored by the Smile Foundation, during the annual Smile Week. Midface distractors were inserted into Adams’s jaw. Doctors gradually lengthened his jaw by constantly widening the distractors and creating space for the bone to grow. The distractors were removed last month and Christiano returned to the hospital recently to have his tracheostomy removed. His mother, Segourney Adams, said that she is relieved that her son can breathe normally again. “When Christiano was born he struggled to breathe and at night he would wake constantly. I sensed that something was seriously wrong and sought medical help. “We went from doctor to doctor and he was diagnosed with everything from a blocked nose to tonsillitis. When Christiano was one-and-a-half years old the condition became life threatening. His mouth was too small to hold his tongue in position and when he slept it would fall back into his throat and cut off his air supply,” she said. Christiano has never been able to attend a crèche and his condition has made it impossible for him to speak. His mother said he communicated using gestures. Days after having the tracheostomy removed Christiano had started to speak. “I’m so grateful to the hospital for all they have done for Christiano,” his mother said. “And I especially want to thank the Smile Foundation for sponsoring the surgery.” Moira Gerszt, the chief operating officer of the Smile Foundation said: “The Smile Foundation is thrilled to have played a part in giving Christiano the incredible opportunity of this life-changing surgery.” "First, last & always we are determined to protect the welfare of children and promote their rights." This report was on Jspace and we happily share it with our readers... Our Jewish community contribute much to community building... Jewish families living in South Africa's Garden Route have formed a Jewish association. The Garden Route Jewish Association formally affiliated last weekend with the umbrella body of South African Jewry, the South African Jewish Board of Deputies. The Garden Route area, some 250 miles east of Cape Town, comprises the towns of George, Knysna, the Wilderness and Plettenberg Bay. It is surrounded by forests and mountain on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other. Jews originally moved into the area near the end of the 19th century. From the late 1980s, Plettenberg Bay and Knysna have experienced a Jewish revival following a decline over many years, with more than 500 families now living in the area and hundreds more frequenting holiday homes and resorts there in the summer. The Oudtshoorn Jewish community, numbering several hundred at the start of World War 1, now has only 16 families. Myron Rabinowitz, chairman of the George Hebrew Congregation, also is the Garden Route Jewish Association chairman. He drew the analogy of “taking the Jews out of the Wilderness” and approached the neighboring Jewish communities in 2007, when he was given the mandate to draw up a constitution. Rabbi Moshe Silberhaft, known as "the Traveling Rabbi," and Mary Kluk, the national chairman of the Jewish Board of Deputies, approved the new body. Jspace.com Nov 2011

ally minded is life and peace to all who in righteousness keep this holy wisdom near to our hearts. (The entire Gospel/Word of God) "Study Romans 8:5-11 Insignificant Man , why be so self-righteous ? The time of judgement is in life, not in Death. Think-ing you “Go t o Heaven when you die and all will be fine. You are Lost! Jesus said: “They are dead already.” and “God is NOT the god of the dead, but of fhe Living . God knew you before, He gave you Grace, Time to come to your senses! This is not too late! This is your time, while you have this life to do , to know and keep His wisdom . Do not fail Him! Desire to know nd live by truth,, understanding fully divine purpose by the Spirit in you! Think about it . This is why we have brains, minds, wills to succeed, to plan, to do, to establish, to grow, to guide, to hellp, work and enjoy, to conquer, have and enjoy life to the full while we live! We have dominion over everything and yet so many live to die.?! Why not change this around and Live to Live? Restoring dignity, honour holy respect is going to take serious com-mitment to His Will and Word, but his is His Will.! In death, you cannot change things anymore, so why not commit to pure digni-fied, honoured, respected change right now! I assure you then your blessings will be for real! You will be renewed in Life! Do you understand the resurrection, repentance? Study Romans 6 “In all things we are more than conquerors!” Be just that! Ms Thea Philp (Tyana Anson. Pletten-berg Bay, Garden Route, South Africa

Letter via the Editor Is your Light fading ? An urgent message by the Spirit of God to all believers. Have you ever wondered why The Word says: “God has no respect for man“. And “There is enmity between God and man“. And “God will rule them with a rod of iron.” And “No man goes to heaven but Him Who is sent from heaven.” And “That repentance and remissions of sins be preached in His Name amongst all nations“? Not just some!! Have you ever wondered why these Scriptures are not honoured as Jesus, the Word, instructed? What about the Sabbath, instituted by God right from the beginning? Why do so many still follow teachings and traditions of Man? The answer to these questions are simple: “Man has forgotten His Maker“, gone so far astray that any-thing goes! Man in his own selfish desires and vain ways, has removed himself from the Laws and Statutes which God of Crea-tion put in place, long before for our instruc-tion an guidance . Sadly some ‘believers’ understand the conviction of being purified and corrected, as being tormented! There-fore so many are sick, in pain, confused, desperately hanging on to medication, material things, abusing habits, greed and beggarly ways of self and not the wayGod, The Word, Jesus Christ taught. Where is respect to our Maker? Where is the confidence in his word? Do you really follow his word? How many today can with a clear conscience and pure mind state that they know God of Creation and live by His will. Are you able to show by your life, your conduct, in love, pureness, goodness, happiness and health, dignity and honour that you are committed to right standing with God of Creation? How many build on a solid foundation on the love of God of creation by keeping his laws of love, in all righteous-ness, by keeping to the promise of everlast-ing life in the word, as promised by his death for mankind. Was his sacrifice for nothing ? Did He not come to restore man back to God, providing a way of truth in life.? Did He not promise Life Everlasting , Abundantly, by hid unfeigned love forhis creatures? Why then do so many suffer, proclaiming they do this for Jesus, THINKING, since He suffered, they also have to suffer? This is sadly, very far from the Truth of the Word of God! The Holy Spirit confirms: Romans 12:2 “Be not con-formed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is The good, acceptable and perfect Will of God.” And ‘The King-dom of God is NOT meat or drink, BUT righteousness , Peace and Joy inhte Holy Spirit.” Romans 14:17… It is time, Beleivers, those who confess Christ, to Open their eyes their eyes to the deception of an Illusive world that seem right for them only. God said: ”Come Out from amongst the dead and live . Start living , start being positive , joyful, proud, dignified, content, patient, at peace, honest. This is the reality ! God only hears you when you are in His

light, not while you are in darkness. Why keep on following an illusion of Make Be-lieve and false hope ? Why does the word say: “Come out from amongst her My Peo-ple. Do NOT share in her sins?” God gave us Life so we may Enjoy, Love, have Peace in prosperity and confidence, abundant Joy and Love purely while we live, not in death.! Dread, fear, confusion, desperation, illness and pain, addictions, drugs, medica-tion, sacrifices, rituals, traditions of man, routines, all are an illusion , making you feel better but for a moment, yet your body is being destroyed, You are separated from your Maker!! Do you understand your body as a Temple of God? Do you glorify Him in your body? Selfish misconduct, lies, greed and vain thoughts, worldly materialism, idols, take away Truth, The Word and Divine Purpose of man, our creature, re-placing it by powerless, insignificance, fearful, sadness and constant failure. Do you see what is happening in the world because of this conduct ? This is an abomi-nation, a mockery of the truth. Where is your honour? What do you give back to God who loved you first, by the sacrifice of Jesus , by showing respect to Him? Is he not the Creator of All? While you look to men for help, your help will be by men. “Shepherds will lead the flock astray“ And “My church is not built by man“. Sunday worshipping, following traditions, Christmas are NOT The Word of God! Clearly lawless-ness rule in the kingdom of men! To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritu-

STOP!!! I lie in a corner, screwing my body into as tight a ball as I can He towers above me, this, so called, “man.” Please - PLEASE - don’t hit me again!! His fist smashes into me, my body explodes in pain. I will NEVER allow this to happen again, I was only trying to protect our child… He just went wild... You know - he has been under a lot of strain, he didn’t mean to hurt us - After all, children do need discipline, we shouldn’t make such a fuss................ I lie over the toilet bowl, vomiting blood, his fist has smashed my jaw. I’ve had enough! I just cannot take any more! I only asked for money for our child and I I HATE him! I wish he would DIE!! ........ He has been under a lot of stress - He didn’t mean to cause me all this terrible pain and distress He “man,” would you like this done to you? Well, without realizing it you ARE doing this to yourself. Abused women, when you keep on making excuses for him it makes a far greater rod for his back, because: Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:5, Mark 10:8, Romans 14:12, Ephesians 5:31, Jeremiah 17:10 +32:19, Revelation 22:12. The sooner he is brought to realize these truths, the better for both of you and any children you may have. Hazel

Everyone Welcome

Open 7 days a week

Chatterbox The Fast Life Have you ever had one of those weeks where it just disappeared and left you shaking your head in disbelief? I had a few things happen on Monday that probably blew the week. First I searched the WHOLE house over for my reading glasses and I had just put them down. I remember feeling them on my head a minute before. That night I found them in the deep freeze balanced on an empty ice tray. Then I was busing marking my jewellery with price tags. Just like that the roll had walked - gone!!! After searching for a couple of hours for the tags, I gave up in a rage and at the end of the week found them in my sewing box??? There was more but I am embarrassed to tell you the things that I do during the day. Keep reaching into the fridge for the washing powder, but on the other hand the fridge and washing ma-chine are side by side - but EVERY-TIME. I am a not a book reader sadly, I cannot justify the hours just lying around indulging in that pastime. In the evening once I am in bed spruced up and all the jobs done, I

read my magazines and I simply love that light relief. I read "People" and "Heat" because I have to know what the film stars are up to - who is doing what to who, who is getting married or divorced. The things they wear etc. put me in a little world of my own as I live among them for that time. Then there is "You" mag which is my big reader and from that I get all the most important information. I am a veritable walking piece of info. Get into any conversation and I have a hot tip to hand out. I also inform everyone of other amazing things I feel they should know and sometimes you get the twit who says 'where did you hear that?' and then they all fall apart about my source of info. Well I really do believe it. I am also an avid watcher of reality programs on TV. My favourites are the REAL hospitals with REAL blood and trauma. The way those doctors deal with these terrible things. Also watch "Paramedics" because that is also all real and driving with the camera in the back of the ambulance and watching those paramedics saving people on the edge. Wow - mind boggling. I have watched babies being born, back, knee, arms, heads being looked into and fixed. I have watched knee and hip transplants and as I have being

watching these programs for a very long time, I am able to diagnose immediately what is wrong and what to do next. I must be very near to qualifying as a doctor . TV I also watch at night only and will sometimes be sharing these things with all the doctors etc at 2pm in the morning. I have another little snippet to share with you and it is gos-pel. YOU KNOW YOU ARE GETTING OLDER WHEN everything that works hurts and what does'nt hurt does'nt work. When your black book contains only names with the prefix DR. When your children are beginning to look middle aged. When your mind makes contracts your body cannot keep. When your are looking forward to a dull evening. When your knees buckle but your belt won't. When your back goes out more than you do. When you sink your teeth into a steak and your teeth stay behind in the steak. When you know all the answers (LIKE ME) but nobody asks the questions. Love Chatterbox MIKE’S PLUMBING - 20% discount on labour for pensioners. No job too big or small. Thank you to the many readers who have sent this for us to share Birth of a new Christmas Tradition - SOUTH AFRICAN WAY ! Come on everybody, let’s give it a go!! Christmas 2011 As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide us with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -- merchandise that has been produced at the expense of South African labour. This year will be different. This year South Africans will give the gift of genuine concern for other South Africans. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by South African hands. Yes, there is plenty. It's time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper? Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local hair salon or barber? Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement. Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car valet’d? Small, South African owned car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates. Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plonking down the cash on a Chinese made flat-screen? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway

fixed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or roof waterproofed and painted, garden service for a year. There are a Gazillion owner-run restaurants -- all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint. Remember, folks this isn't about big National chains -- this is about supporting your home town South African with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open. How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or motorbike, done at a shop run by a South African working guy? Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day. My computer could do with an upgrade, and I KNOW I can find some young guy who is struggling to get his repair business up and running. OK, you were looking for something more personal. Local crafts people are great. They make jewellery, pottery, wood work, knitted stuff, Teddy Bears, paintings and home preserves etc. Go to the different Markets and studios in your area. What about a gift voucher for art lessons or some other craft. Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip. And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theatre. Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands What about giving a gift to your family member or friends favourite Charity Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house? When you buy a R50 string of lights, about fifty cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to

burn, leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a nice BIG tip. You see, Christmas is no longer about draining South African pockets so that China can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about us, encouraging small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about other South Africans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we couldn't imagine. THIS should be the new South African Christmas tradition. This is a revolution of caring about each other, and isn't that what Christmas is about? However, even more important than the above, is a gift or labour of LOVE! BUY SOUTH AFRICAN - BE SOUTH AFRICAN - The job you save might be your own

crime, corruption and community violence will increase globally, as will unemployment, poverty and starvation. Tyranny is the inevitable end product of such a scenario. We are witnessing a growing outcry for change all over the world. People are networking and coming together in large numbers demanding financial, political and societal changes to be made. But where are their plans for change? Is there a common template of the new world order that so many are struggling to achieve? Not to my knowledge but as the calls intensify and the numbers increase, perhaps we shall see the arrival of many plans for change. I worked on such a plan for almost ten years. It is a plan that, amongst other things, guarantees full employment opportunities; guaranteed income; guaranteed zero inflation; the removal of debt, poverty and starvation; the removal of all cash related crime and corruption; the removal of taxation, the banking industry and all related financial services; free education and health care; environmental repatriation and management, and comfortable retirement for the aged. Perhaps the COP17 delegates might be interested in such a plan. For all who are interested, a free copy is available upon request to [email protected] and debate about it will be most welcome. I have seen no other comprehensive set of proposals so am inclined to believe it is presently unique. Prof. Albert Einstein told us: “there are problems in today’s world that cannot be solved by the level of thinking that created them.” Absolutely right. We have to think outside of the box to overcome today’s problems, and my plan is a product of such thinking. Press Release COP17 another failure in the making? As the world’s monetary system crumbles towards total collapse, and the consequences of environmental mismanagement are revealed in climate change anomalies, the eyes of the world will be focussing upon the COP17 meeting in Durban over the next few days. What outcome can we expect from this gathering of minds, as they mull over the implementation of the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol, as well as the Bali Action Plan, agreed at COP 13 in 2007, and the Cancun Agreements, reached at COP 16 last December, as they sip spring water from environmentally unfriendly plastic bottles? My money is on yet another complete and utter failure by this 17th COP (Conflict Of Priorities.) There will be no declared

consensus on any form of remedial action that might assist the global population, and future generations, to overcome the worrisome survival challenges of climate change. It will be referred to as an absence of political will, and will be perceived in great abundance at Durban’s International Convention Centre. We have to remember, of course, politicians generally and world leaders in particular, take developmental instructions from their multinational masters, when it comes to matters relating to major global economic issues. Although not recommended, some politicians might have original thoughts of their own, but will be discouraged from expressing them openly, particularly if they detract from the charted course. Predictably, the global economic crisis will be blamed in large part, as making it impossible to bear the enormous transformation costs of migrating from fossil fuels to alternative forms of energy generation. This is not too far from the truth, but the crisis was, after all, created by the multinationals themselves. They also created the global warming and climate change phenomenon, but are now more concerned about recovering and maintaining infinite economic growth, rather than the trifling matters of cleaning up the environment. So what is to be done? How are we going to bring financial stability into our lives, while attempting to protect ourselves, and our future generations, against the unstoppable approach of climate change? For as long as we retain the present completely flawed world monetary system, we shall never pull ourselves out of the calamitous situation that has been created for us, and to some extent by us. The system has reached the point where
