Exercise 1 Working with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
Scenario Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 contains an improved out of the box site template. This template creates
the “starter” site when SharePoint Server 2007 is installed, which can be used to build out the Intranet presence site.
One important change in Office SharePoint Server 2007 is a common template between Windows SharePoint
Services (version 3) and Office SharePoint Server 2007. This eliminates the inconsistencies in navigation in the
previous versions of the technologies.
This initial site template contains many common applications and layouts described in the following sections.
Tasks Detailed Steps
Complete the following
10 tasks on:
MOSS
1. Login and Open IE
a. Login using the following credentials:
• Username: luisb
• Password: pass@word1
• Log on to: LITWAREINC
b. Wait for the Warmup Script to complete and the popup window to close.
c. Open Internet Explorer and wait for the portal homepage to load.
2. Create a new WSS
site
a. Click on Sites in the top navigation to open the Sites Directory page
b. Click on Create Site from the Site Actions menu to open the site creation form
c. Create a new site using the following values, and defaults for the rest:
• Title: WSS Test Site
• URL: wsstest
d. Click Create to create the site
e. You have now created a new WSS site in the Sites Directory.

in Windows SharePoint Services V3.

f. Click on Litware Portal in the top navigation to return to the portal homepage
g. The portal homepage also supports the same flexibility in editing the options and
items that appear in the top and left navigation, and the breadcrumbs. For more
information see the Windows SharePoint Services Introduction lab
h. Hover over Sites in the top navigation bar and notice the dropdown navigation for
the new site created earlier.
i. Use the Site Actions drop down menu and notice the flyout menu options for the
View Reports and Site Settings menu options

3. View the available
options for common
tasks and perform a
search
a. Click on the drop down arrow for “I need to…” and view the available options.
These are common tasks for intranet portals.
b. From the drop down choose Setup MySite and click on the green arrow icon to
continue
c. You will be taken to a screen where your My Site is created
d. Click the browser Home button to return to the portal homepage
e. Type Brian in the Employee Lookup text box and click on the green arrow icon
to execute the search.

f. Notice the Search query goes to the People tab in Search Center and includes
Brian Cox as the top result. This is a feature of the new Search Center and is
covered in more detail in a separate lab.
4. View Out of the box
Web Parts for
common information
a. Click on Litware Inc. in the top navigation to return to the portal homepage
b. Notice the large content area in the center of the page, this is the “Highlight”
section. Out of the box this contains information for new users.
c. Notice the News section directly below the highlight. This is populated based on
articles in the News area. The News area is now a publishing site with the features
previously included in Microsoft Content Management Server 2002. For more
information, see the separate Content Management lab.

d. Notice the Top Sites section. This is a list of sites from the Sites Directory which
can be filtered based on rules set in the Web Part
5. Create a new
Audience and set its
properties
a. Close all web browsers
b. Open SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration from the Start menu ->
Administrative Tools.
c. Navigate to the Application Management page.
d. In the Office SharePoint Server Shared Services section of the Application
Management page, click Create or configure this farm’s shared services.
e. Click on the SharedServices1 (Default) Shared Services Provider (SSP) link
f. In the Audiences section, click Audiences to open the Manage Audiences page.
g. Click the Create Audience link
h. Give the new audience a Name of Managers and click OK
i. In the Add Audience Rule page, use the following values and click OK
a. Property: Title
b. Operator: Contains
c. Value: Manager

NOTE: In this step or any of the Audience steps if you receive an error message
stating “This page is accessible only from an SSP admin site.” You may use the
Favorites links and select Manage Audiences to navigate back to the Manage
Audiences page.
j. If an AutoComplete dialog appears, click No to continue.
k. Click on Manage Audiences from the site breadcrumb
l. Click Start compilation
m. Click on the browser home button to return to the portal homepage
n. Click on WSS Test Site in the dropdown under Sites in the top navigation bar
o. Click on Site Actions in the upper right corner of the page and choose Edit Page.
This put the page in design mode.

p. Click on the down arrow on the right side of the Announcements Web Part header
and choose Modify Shared Web Part
q. The Web Part Properties pane appears. Expand the Advanced section
r. Scroll to the bottom click on the Browse button in the Target Audiences section
s. The Select Audience popup appears. Expand the dropdown to see the targeting
options and choose Global Audiences
t. Type Managers and click the green magnifying glass button
u. Click to highlight Managers in the return list, then click Add and OK

v. Click OK to apply the Web Part changes and close the property pane
w. Login as Brian Cox (username: “LITWAREINC\brianc” password:
“pass@word1”) using Sign in as Different User from the Welcome Luis Bonifaz

x. Notice that the Announcements Web Part is hidden, as Brian is not a member of
the audience
y. Once again become Luis by choosing Sign Out from the Welcome Brian Cox
item at the top of the browser window
z. Choose No when prompted to close the browser
aa. Click Go back to site to return to the WSS Test Site homepage
6. View People and
groups screen
a. Click on Site Actions in the upper right corner of the page and choose Site
Settings.

b. Under Users and Permissions, choose People and groups.
c. Notice the new people display including additional profile columns such as the
user’s picture.
7. View the Colleagues
and Details screen.
a. Click My Site in upper right corner of the browser page.
b. Wait for the My Site to be created (if necessary).
c. Click Yes to the popup (if necessary).
d. Notice the SharePoint Sites roll-up Web Part. This Web Part displays tabs for
each site where Documents were created or Tasks assigned to Luis
e. Notice the Colleagues Web Part. Click on Show all colleagues to display all
peers and reporting employees.

f. You can add additional Colleagues at any time by clicking on Colleagues under
My Information in the left navigation. Click on the link to do so.
g. Notice the My Colleagues page, which lists existing colleagues with information
about them and options for editing.
h. Click on Add Colleagues
i. Notice the ability to add new colleagues, including suggestions based on email and
IM communication.
j. Also notice the Privacy and Grouping section which has options for grouping
colleagues and who your colleagues are displayed to on your public My Site

k. Click on My Site in the upper right corner to return to Luis’s My Site
l. In the left navigation, click on Details under My information.
m. Scroll down the page and notice the drop-downs in the Show To column. This
controls who is able to see this information on your public My Site
n. Notice the ability to pick a picture for your profile.
o. Click Cancel and Go Back

p. Click on Site Actions and notice the Create menu option which allows you to
create new lists, libraries, and web pages in your My Site
q. Click on Shared Documents in the left navigation
r. Click on Actions and notice the option to View RSS Feed. SharePoint Server
2007 has the built-in ability to publish a list or library as an RSS feed.
8. View the
“Organization
Hierachy” web part
a. Click on the My Profile tab – this displays the user’s public My Site
b. Notice the improved Organization Hierarchy Web Part

9. View Additional
functionality to
control the visibility
of information
a. Click on Edit Details in the Contact Information Web Part
b. Add some information to the About Me, Responsibility, and Skills field and click
on Save and close

d. Click on the drop-down As seen by (Top right of page): and notice the values.
This allows you to preview your My Profile and see what appears for each group.

g. Choose Save and Close
h. Notice that Skills disappears from the Details section
i. Change the value of the As seen by: drop down to My Work Group and notice
that Skills reappears

d. Choose My Site and double-click on Shared Documents to set the location for the
Save As dialog

allowing you to change the location and checkout options. Click OK
h. Close Word 2007 and choose Yes when prompted to check the file back in.

j. Choose OK to the confirmation dialog box.
k. Return to the browser and refresh the page.
