Spring Tea Party Friday, March 18th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm in the Main Dining Room

Assorted tea, homemade sandwiches,

and cookies will be served.

Please call Lindsay Eberly at X1352 to sign up.

The month of March will bring the first day of Spring on March

20th and bring the celebration of Easter on March 27th. While

most of us would agree that this winter has not been as harsh as

other winters, I suspect most of us are still looking forward to

warmer days, green grass, budding flowers, and trees instead of

snow. During these winter months I have been planning and

preparing for my vegetable garden. I have not put out a garden

for several years, and I have found that just thinking about it has

lightened the darker, colder days of winter for me. The transition

from winter to spring and the observances of Easter and

Passover remind us of the tenacious power of life to overcome

despair and hopelessness. Whether you are planting seeds,

hiding Easter eggs, or just looking forward to being outdoors a

bit more often, may this new season bring you joy, peace, and

hope. —Chaplain Paul

A NOTE FROM JIM

An Appreciative Attitude

Having an appreciative attitude is an important life skill that at any age can add quality to a person’s life. By being appreciative the focus is on others instead of oneself. Therefore we all can be more productive and understanding.

Developing an appreciative attitude means that we must first learn to appreciate. In somewhat of a paradoxical way of not being boastful or arrogant, we need to respect ourselves by being grateful for what we have and what we have achieved. Each day we can look for people we should have appreciated more. This can be friends we need to tell how much they have been helpful and supportive, or this could be an acquaintance who shared ideas and feelings, or this could be a family members who needs a little recognition or appreciation. At the end of every day we can be thankful for the day, be thankful for what we have done and what we could have done better, and be grateful for our well being. When we practice this for a few weeks, it will become a part of our daily routine.

Using this attitude of gratitude, we automatically train ourselves to notice the good and the positive in every situation. Some other helpful ways to have an appreciative attitude are:

1. Don’t get involved in Negative Gossip. It is never healthy or productive. Excuse yourself and get away!

2. Go out of your way to express gratitude to others. Appreciation is so helpful to all!

3. Control your response. Don’t get defensive. Think before you speak and appreciate the comment (even if it is negative).

4. See the Big Picture. Some problems that seem really big are actually small problems with big opportunities.

So this is a perfect opportunity for me to thank all of you for your wisdom, your direction, and your suggestions to make Twin Lakes BETTER! Thank you for living here at Twin Lakes. I appreciate all of you.

News For You

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK’S DAY, HAPPY SPRING, and A BLESSED EASTER to all of our Residents, Associates, and Customers.

Spring arrives on Sunday, March 20th, followed quickly by Easter on Sunday, March 27th,

and the Campus Shop is stocked and ready! Do you need something special for St. Patrick’s Day? The Campus Shop has beautiful handcrafted St. Patrick’s Day cards and commercial greeting cards. Available as gifts for others or yourself are ties, napkins, and many decorations. Everything must be seen to be appreciated. Come and browse the Campus Shop. Easter Sunday is very early this year, but the Campus shop will be ready with cards, gifts, and more. Spring and Easter and Plants and Flowers bring to mind the wonderful Benken’s Gift cards sold in the Campus Shop. These $25 gift cards allow your friend or family to choose their own plants and flowers throughout the Spring when they have time to shop and plant, but the best part is they contribute $5 to the Benevolent Care and Pastoral Care Funds. Our Sale Cart continues to operate and must be checked frequently so you do not miss out on real bargains. We are currently featuring Car Charms and Scarves, which are a good buy. Be a regular customer, and know what is in the Shop and on the Cart at all times. If there is an item you want us to carry, please have the volunteer write the item in the journal on the counter. The volunteer will need your name and phone number so we can notify you concerning that item. While shopping at the Campus shop take a moment to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee, tea or cocoa along with a roll, muffin, cookies, or a delicious candy bar. If soft drinks are more to your liking, we have Coke products along with chips, crackers and peanuts. We appreciate your patronage. Everyone who was residing at Twin Lakes on January 1, 2016, received a membership form for Friends of Twin Lakes to renew for 2016. If you do not have one or have misplaced the form, stop at the Campus Shop to pick one up, or call Joan Mettey, Membership Chair, at x1828. Complete the form and place it along with your check payable to “Friends of Twin Lakes” in Internal Mailbox 1128. Take forms for your adult children and grandchildren, as we need a lot of help when we have fundraisers. Thanks. A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PATRONIZED THE VALENTINE CUPCAKE AND CHOCOLATE SALE, WHICH WAS A BIG SUCCESS. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AGAIN IN 2017. For the convenience of all our volunteers, the April, 2016 signup sheet will be in the Campus Shop on March 1. Sign up early to get the dates and times you want. Thanks.

News from the LEC Foundation Department at Twin Lakes

Our fundraising campaign to pay for the Shirley M. Davies Community Center, as part of the Twin Lakes expansion, is underway. We are making good progress. As of mid-February, we have raised $334,500 in addition to the $500,000 gift from the estate of Shirley M. Davies. Our goal is to raise 1.5 M. Thank you for your generosity to those who have already made a gift or pledge. Please consider giving a gift. There are several ways to contribute. Many residents are choosing to give a portion of their Entrance Fee Refund as a pledge. Please call the Foundation office at 247-1362 to learn about the details and other ways you can be a part of helping to fund the Davies Community Center. It is going to be an amazing space which will accommodate many new program opportunities.

One easy and fun way you can contribute to the Benevolent Care Fund at Twin Lakes is by joining your friends for dinner at Twin Lakes Night at Rudino’s on Monday, March 14th from 5:00 to 7:30 pm. Rudino’s Sports Bar contributes 10% of sales to the Benevolent Care Fund at Twin Lakes each month.

Don’t forget to buy Girl Scout Cookies!

Friends of Twin Lakes The Friends of Twin Lakes will host a Tail of a Whale Sale in September. This sale

will be very small due to limited space to store and stage donations. We will focus on

selling Christmas items, Jewelry, and Framed Art work. Donations will be accepted in

the Foundation office now through August. We will provide a list of organizations who

take other items you might be looking to dispose of. If you have any questions, call

Nancy Schwandner at 247-1362.
