WHAT’S YOUR STORY? What makes you tick? What gets you up in the

morning? What floats your boat and drives your passion? What makes you you? You’re reading this

viewbook, so you’re obviously very intelligent, somewhat curious, and possibly an undiscovered genius (which would be pretty cool). If you’re new

to university, your story may just be starting.

If you’re a transfer student, it may be well underway. Wherever you’re at in your journey, we have the

people and the programs that will help you write

the next exciting chapter of your story.

We could tell you about how

we started out in 1911 as the

modest Regina College.

We could also tell you about

how we grew in size and

significance until we ultimately

became an independent

degree-granting university,

the University of Regina,

in 1974. But let’s face it, this

probably isn’t the best time for

a history lesson. Instead, we’ll

tell you about what makes us

different. We’ll tell you about

what makes us one of the

leading mid-sized universities

in Canada. We’ll tell you about

what makes us us.

It’s true! We’re so confident that our

grads will receive employment in their

field of study that we guarantee it!

It’s called our UR GUARANTEE –

and it was the first program of its kind

in Canada. If you’re a newly admitted

or transfer student with 30-credit

hours or less of post-secondary

classes and you do not secure

employment in your field within six

months of graduation, we’ll pay for

you to come back for another year

of undergraduate classes!

WE PUT OUR

MONEY WHERE

OUR MOUTH IS

WE HELP YOU

EARN WHILE

YOU LEARN

WE PROVIDE

A HOME AWAY

FROM HOME

WE’RE NOT

TOO BIG & NOT

TOO SMALL

WE CAN

SHOW YOU

THE WORLD

Okay, maybe not from a magic

carpet, but Aladdin has nothing

on us. Students in our UR

International Study Abroad Program

get to study in some of the most

fascinating and beautiful places

on earth. From the futuristic

cityscapes of Asia, to the historic

landmarks of Europe, our students

broaden their horizons and become

true citizens of the world.

Not to brag, but we DID pioneer

the Co-operative (Co-op) Education

Work Experience Program in

Western Canada. Our students get

the opportunity to gain valuable

experience-based learning while

pursuing almost any undergraduate

degree. Co-op Programs are

available in nearly 50 areas of study

and helped our students earn over

$10 Million in 2017! Okay, so maybe

we are bragging (just a little bit).

Moving away from home can be hard;

but once you get over not having your

dad’s world-famous French toast,

you’ll soon realize that life on campus

is pretty great. Six fully-furnished

residence buildings offer a wide

variety of housing options. Not only

does living in Housing offer

independence and convenience, it

also provides the opportunity to meet

others and make lifelong friendships

(you may even find someone who can

make delicious French toast).

We like to think we’re in the

Goldilocks zone of universities.

Our smaller class sizes mean that

your professors and classmates

will actually know your name. You’ll

recognize friendly faces in the halls

and know where you’re going after

just a few days on campus. But don’t

be fooled by our size! Even though

we’re a smallish campus, we still

offer a broad range of programming,

exceptional faculty, and some truly

world-class facilities.

Regina, affectionately referred to as the Queen City,

is the capital of Saskatchewan and one of Canada’s

friendliest cities.

Located in the heart of the North

American plains, Regina receives more

hours of sunshine per year than any

other Canadian city, making it a great

place to call home (and the ideal place

to lounge like a cat or grow impressive

houseplants).

The Queen City is built around Wascana

Centre, one of the largest and most

picturesque urban parks in North

America, making it a beautiful place

to live. Wascana Lake is located just

seconds from campus and surrounded

by dozens of pathways where you can

admire the beauty of nature while you

jog, walk, bike, longboard, or maybe

even gallop (hey, we’re not judging).

Regina offers the perfect blend of big

city amenities and small town charm.

When you live here, you may have rush

minutes, but you’ll never have rush hour!

Getting around is easy with Regina Tran-

sit, which connects you to all areas of

the city with 16 million bus routes annu-

ally. Our U-Pass gives students unlimited

access to all transit routes (including

express university routes)!

There’s also no shortage of things

to do in Regina. Whether you’re a sports

fanatic, culture buff, foodie or adventure

seeker – Regina has something for you.

With a growing entrepreneurial

population, Regina is quickly becoming

a destination for exceptional local

culinary and shopping experiences.

GET WITH THE PROGRAM

The UR Guarantee Program was created to support students

every step of the way through their university experience,

by empowering you to achieve your educational, career and

life goals. Once you’ve completed all elements of the

UR Guarantee Program, and if you have 30-credit hours

or less of postsecondary classes, you are eligible for the

UR Guarantee. What does this mean? In short, if you don’t

secure career-related employment within six months of

graduation, you will be eligible to come back for another

year of undergraduate classes FREE of charge.

Our broad range of free programs and services will help

you adjust to campus life and teach you the skills required

OTHER GREAT CAREER SERVICES WE OFFER

2018/2019 VIEWBOOK 15

Sure university is a character-building, mind-expanding, life-changing experience -

but what’s the point of it all? Before you think this is an existential crisis kind

of question, we’re actually referring to life after university. The point is to find a career –

a career that you’re both good at and passionate about. That’s why we offer a variety

of career services that will help you get a jumpstart on your life after university.

WORK!

Not sure what to study? Our Career Centre Counsellors can

help you explore all of your career options and recommend

the best educational route toward getting there. Looking for

offer a variety of other hands-on learning opportunities

through internships, practicum placements, professional

placements and fieldwork.

CO-OP WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM

We pioneered the Co-op Work Experience Program in Western

Canada and have been committed to it ever since. If it sounds

like we’re bragging, that’s because we are! Our program

has been emulated by universities across the country, and

helped our students earn over $10 million in wages last year

alone. Co-op programs are now available in nearly 50 areas

of study, and allow students to gain valuable, paid work

experience while pursuing almost any undergraduate degree.

FALL OPEN HOUSE – OCTOBER 20, 2018

Each fall, we offer a Saturday Open House event for high school

students and their families. It’s a great opportunity to tour our

campus and residence buildings, meet other future students,

and ask current students about what life at U of R is really all

about. You can even apply on the spot (and possibly get

admitted that day) for a reduced application fee!

ADMISSION ON THE SPOT (AOTS)

No need to pace by your mailbox, chewing your fingernails and

waiting for your acceptance letter. Our Admission on the Spot

event allows students to apply in person and, for most programs,

find out if they’re accepted right on the spot. Simply bring your

transcripts and application fee (your fingernails will thank you).

These events happen multiple times throughout the year in various

locations. Visit us online for a full listing (and details on what to bring!)

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION WORKSHOPS

These helpful workshops give you excellent advice on how to

search for awards, write an awesome personal statement, and

what to ask for in reference letters. You’ll find out everything

you wanted to know about scholarship applications but were too

afraid to ask.

GRADE 11 UNIVERSITY PREVIEW – FEBRUARY, 2019

It’s never too early to start planning for your post-secondary

future. This event is designed specifically for grade 11 students

who want to explore their post-secondary options. Take part

in hands-on sessions and selected presentations based on

your own interests.

URBEGINNING – MAY 3, 2019

New students who have been admitted to the university are invited

to attend this fun spring event before starting classes in the fall.

URBEGINNING provides the opportunity for incoming students to

meet others, register for classes, and get first dibs on fall courses!

EVENTSJust like your grandma’s house, you’re

always welcome here! There’s no need

for a formal invite; stop by any time

to scope out our campus and get a feel

for what it’s really like to be a student

at the University of Regina.

SEE

OUR

COME CAMPUS

Get the insider’s scoop on campus life, as you enjoy a tour

from one of our current students. Check out our classrooms,

housing options, sports facilities, and popular campus

hangouts. Feel free to stop by solo, with friends, or even with

your parents (after all, there’s a chance they may be paying

for this).

There’s a good chance you’ll have a lot of questions about

university. That’s why we have experienced (and pretty darn

friendly) Enrolment Counsellors on staff. They’ll meet with you

one-on-one, answer all of your questions, and even guide you

through the complete application process if you like.
