Principal’s Report CANBERRA CAMP Don’t forget to check our Facebook page for news on the Canberra Camp. I post photos and information as I receive it. This camp is an amazing experience with so many fascinating and valuable places to visit. The AIS, old and new Parliament Houses, War Memorial and much more!
This year we have included the Australian Dinosaur Muse-um on our itinerary for the first time – it was a hit! We are ex-pecting the buses to arrive from 4:30 onwards. Again, keep an eye on Facebook for updates on the expected arri-val time!
ANZAC DAY While ANZAC Day is on a Saturday this year, we spend time at school talking about what it means to us, at vari-ous levels of sophistication according to age group. The Senior School spend much of term one concentrating on Leadership – this year the leadership focus has been on the ANZAC Spirit. The Canberra Camp has a strong focus on leadership as well, with the War Memorial connection with the ANZAC Spirit a highlight. The ANZAC Spirit unit will culminate in an ANZAC commemorative ceremony which the students have organised. Our local state member of parliament Ryan Smith will speak at this (student only!) ceremony and lay a wreath. The AN-ZAC focus has been highlighted by our specialist teachers as well, - in the last week of term one Rod Neal and Senior School students created a Remembrance Garden in the courtyard at the rear of the Senior School build-ing, and Jeenah has been working on making poppies with our students. AYA SENSEI We welcomed Aya Sensei into our community this week. Aya is a teacher who works in Tokyo – she will return to a new role teaching English in her school, so she is very keen to learn lots about how we do things as well as improve her Eng-lish. She has spent the week so far with Tanya meeting each class and getting to know the school and students. Aya is currently staying with Tahlia, Trish and Grant – thank you for welcoming Aya into your family! I know everyone will extend Aya a warm Warranwood welcome.

The children have been excitedly recounting their holidays and family trips that they went on. We are very jealous. Our first week back we have been preparing the room so that it can be painted. So sorry if the room looks a little bare. We are also still awaiting our results from accreditation. As soon as we receive them, we’ll let you know J Next week we will be doing a few ANZAC themed activities as well as some fun painting and craft activi-ties.
