Since its publication in 1978, Raymond Briggs’ timeless book, The Snowman - brought to life by its soft, watercolour images - has become a children’s classic. In 1982, the wordless book about a magical friendship between a young boy and the snowman he creates, was made into an animated film first shown on Christmas Eve.

The beautiful score, composed by Howard Blake, includes the evocative ‘Walking in the Air’, made famous by Aled Jones. It proved an immediate hit and subsequently became a heart-warming perennial favourite, delighting audiences of all ages and providing the soundtrack to every child’s Christmas.

THE SNOW QUEEN COMES TO GLOUCESTER BLACKFRIARS - Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale on which the hit film FROZEN is based on is coming to Gloucester this Christmas.

Intrepid explorers are needed to join a magical quest…Kay and Gerda are neighbours and best friendsKay has gone missing and Gerda is determind to find him.Join brave Gerda on a daring mission to rescue her dearest friend Kay who has been stolen by the Snow Queen; crossing frozen lands, meeting reindeer, princesses and princes, magical creatures, robbers and thieves, on her way to the Snow Queen’s icy kingdom.

Join us on this amazing adventure this winter in Blackfriars Priory. Blackfriars will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland, with an immersive theatre show for all the family.

Produced by Strike a Light and presented by Gloucester Guildhall, this heroic walkabout show takes its audience on an adventure around the historic Blackfriars site to help Gerda find Kay.

The Snow Queen is suitable for all the family with story-telling, puppetry, music and plenty of live action to keep you warm with festive cheer.

The adventure begins on Thursday 6th December and runs until Sat 22nd December with shows throughout the day. Wrap up warm, scarves and hats, the Snow Queens palace is cold.
