Separators, Wildcards, and Ranges Can Be Used in Product Link Setup

Merged fields are set up for the Product Code field, when you need multiple fields to identify specific products in Product Link Setup.

Previously, when merged fields were used for product codes, the resulting long strings of concatenated values were added to the Code column of the Product Link Setup screen and paired with the appropriate products. It could be difficult to achieve the desired product-linking granularity, using this technique.

Now, if merged fields are used and new links are added to the Code column, individual field values are separated by backslashes ( \ ). You can also fine-tune the individual field values using wildcards ( * ) and ranges ( < ).

Note: If you are already using merged fields for product codes, you will need to edit the values in the Code column of Product Link Setup and add separators ( \ ) between the fields.

2015a Enhancements (10/27/15)

PROFITstar/PROFITability

Using Categories to Filter Report Writer Reports

In the current release, you can now filter your Report Writer reports with user-defined categories, which makes it easier to find the reports you want to open or include in Report Central multiple reporting groups.

Creating the necessary categories and tagging the reports is done in the new Manage Reports dialog box, opened from the Report Writer File menu.

The Manage Reports functionality also lets you Delete and Rename your Report Writer reports.

Change to the Method of Interpreting Downloaded Two-Digit Years

Previously, when two-digit years were encountered for historical fields such as Origination Date, Acquisition Date, Roll Date, and Last Repricing Date, the interpreted year was not allowed to be more than 50 years old.

Now, the dates interpreted from two-digit years, for historical fields, can be up to 99 years in the past.

For example, if the model's current year is 2015, a downloaded Origination Date value of 60416, without separators, would be interpreted like this:

Date Format 60416 Interpreted As... Move Results

MDY June 4, 1916 06/04/1916

DMY April 6, 1916 04/06/1916

YMD April 16, 2006 04/16/2006

A two-digit year that matches the current year will always be interpreted as the current year.

New Weighted Average Life Report

The new Weighted Average Life report shows the contractual, prepay flat, and projected weighted average life for every account that displays an average life in Maturity/Repricing. The projected life value includes the effect of instrument sales.

This report is found in the Report Wizard, under the Analytical report type.

PROFITability Only

Calculated Last Repricing Date Issue

When a Last Repricing Date is not provided in the extract file, it is calculated. Occasionally, the calculation resulted in a date that was prior to the provided Origination Date.

Now, if this happens, the program will use the Origination Date for the Last Repricing Date.

New Product Cost Summary Report

The new Product Cost Summary report is a product profitability report that displays the unit volume, and direct, indirect, overhead, and activity unit costs for selected products. It also displays the Capital Rate, which is the ratio of total capital to the total balance of each product.

When several time frames are selected, the unit costs are averaged over the selected time frames.

This report is found in the Report Wizard, under the Allocations report type.

2015 Enhancements

PROFITstar/PROFITability

Creating a Copy of Your Model During the Monthly Update Process

The Update Wizard now includes a step (Create a Copy of Your Model), which gives you an opportunity to copy the current model's settings and data to a new model, before performing the monthly update. Using a What-If model as a “temporary backup” is a recommended best practice, in case you need to revert to the original data after running the download.

After the new model is created, you remain in the same model so you can continue with the monthly update.

Find Tool Added to the Report Wizard View Data Grid

Simple Find functionality has been added to the Report Wizard View Data grid.

Click the Find button, use the right-click menu command, or press <Ctrl+F> to toggle the Find tool on and off.

Enter a value in the Find field and then use the Next and Previous buttons to navigate through the data. You can also use <Alt+N> and <Alt+P> to perform the same task.

The Find field is case insensitive.

Deleting What-If Models That Are Linked to the Base Model

Previously, models that were linked to the Base Model could not be deleted until the link was manually removed.

Now, although the Delete Models dialog box still shows which models are linked, the program will not prevent you from deleting those models.

Additional COA Functionality Activated for PROFITstar Budget Users

Clients who are licensed for PROFITstar Budget now have access to these additional Chart of Accounts settings:

Prepayment Speed Driver, in the Prepayments area of the Matr/Repr tab

Other Options section of the Advanced tab, which includes the Adjustable Maturity Timing settings

PROFITstar Only

Variable-Rate Accounts Can Use the Calculated Spread KRT Method

The Calculated Spread key rate tie method can now be used with variable-rate accounts. This method calculates the difference between an account’s offering rate in the current month and the associated product of the Databank Key Rate and the Multiply by factor, and comes up with a spread—saved as the Then add % value—which is used to calculate the offering rate in projections.

Previously, this method could only be selected for fixed-rate balance sheet accounts. Now, for Initial key rate ties, this method is available for fixed-rate balance sheet accounts and for variable-rate accounts that do not have a Final key rate tie. For Final key rate ties, this method can be used with variable-rate accounts that have an Initial key rate tie method set to something other than Calculated Spread.

Utilizing Multiple Yield Curves in Matched Funded FTP Setup

In prior versions, if a key rate with a yield curve formula (custom yield curve) was selected in the Rate Account list, in the Matched Funded FTP Setup screen, the program treated it like a key rate with a historical rate of zero.

The model's default yield curve, ("Yield curve" in the Rate Account list), was the only option that could be used to actually determine the FTP Rate for individual records from points on a yield curve.

Now, whether you select "Yield curve" or a custom yield curve, both are treated as yield curves by the FTP calculations. In addition, a field has been added to the FTP Yield Curve Documentation report that shows the name of the selected yield curve.

PROFITstar Portfolio

Some Dates in Portfolio Could Not Be Manually Keyed In

In Portfolio, dates for the following fields could only be specified by picking a date on the provided calendar. You could not manually enter a date into these fields:

Exercise Dates in the Call Trigger Assumptions area of the Call Options tab

Call Dates in Call Frequency Setup, when scheduled

Step Dates in Step Type Setup, when scheduled

These dates are also available in the grid, when the Edit In Grid mode is active.

In 2015, you can key in a date without using the calendar.

PROFITstar Budget Manager

Reviewers Now Assigned to Users in the New Reviewer Setup Screen

In previous versions of Budget Manager, a list of users assigned to a reviewer (or admin) could be created on the Users to Review tab, which was part of the User Profile screen. This process, however, did not prevent review chain problems such as:

Users being assigned to multiple reviewers

Reviewers being set up to review users who were above them in the review chain, which resulted in circular reference errors

Now, the Users to Review tab has been removed and reviewers are associated with users in the new Reviewer Setup screen, which is accessed from the Settings page. This setup screen will not allow more than one reviewer to be assigned to a user. In addition, circular reference warnings are provided to alert you when a user's review chain is circular (not hierarchical).

Note: In the Reviewer Setup screen, users who previously had more than one reviewer assigned to them will now have a corresponding blank cell displayed in the Reviewer column. A reviewer will need to be reassigned for each of these users.

Budgeted Values Displayed in the Top Grid in the "Budget Final" State

A change has been made to the data that is displayed in the top Budget grid, when a budget's status is Budget Final - No Editing.

Previously, when the source data's current month advanced into budgeted time frames and data was re-exported to Budget Manager, the current month in the top Budget Manager grid displayed historical "actuals" followed by the remaining projected months of the budget. This did not change when a budget was set to Budget Final - No Editing.

Now, however, when a budget's status is Budget Final - No Editing, only budgeted data is shown in the top grid even in the current month for all charts and layouts. In addition, growth statistics, QTD/YTD income, and the values displayed on the Account Details tab are based strictly on budgeted data. (Even as each subsequent month is re-exported, YTD income and growth statistic numbers continue to be based on the data that was originally budgeted for those months.)

Areas that have not changed include:

The Graph tab continues to show PROFITstar actuals for historical months and budget values for future months.

The History tab continues to show PROFITstar actuals.

Reports (except for Variance Reports) continue to show PROFITstar actuals for historical months and budget values for future months.

Enhancements, Changes, and Fixes in 2015 and 2015a

Fixes

Many of the fixes included in the 2015 edition of PROFITstar, PROFITability, and PROFITstar Portfolio are listed on the following pages.

While you are always encouraged to run the latest version of the software, please review this list of fixes to see if your institution would benefit from upgrading to the most recent release.

All of the listed items have been corrected.

Fixed in 2015a.141

Released 10/27/2015

PROFITstar and PROFITability

Certain UDQP Total Values Were Not Calculated Correctly

Totals set up to use the Target Value projection action, in a User-Defined Quick Projection, were not being calculated correctly.

Now, any User-Defined Quick Projection that depends on a pro-rata distribution of total accounts, works correctly.

Trend Report Not Honoring a Layout for Single Entity Clients

The Time/Account x Data layout was not working for single entity clients.

This is corrected in 2015a.

PROFITstar and PROFITability

Report Writer's Multi-Reporting Tool Removed Dots in Report Names

When saving reports as CSV files, the Multi-Reporting tool was incorrectly removing everything after the dot. For example, if two Report Writer reports—“Budget 2015” and “Budget 2015.2”—were selected in the Multi-Reporting tool, and saved as CSV files, both reports would be saved as the same file name (Budget 2015.csv) since the “.2” was removed from the second report and the last-saved file overwrote the previous one.

With this fix, the two reports from the above example will now be saved as two separate files—Budget 2015.csv and Budget 2015.2.csv.

Problem Pasting the Contents of the Clipboard into Report Writer

In previous versions of 2014, a problem prevented certain clipboard formats (like Excel) from being copied into Report Writer.

In the 2015 release, pasting from the clipboard works as it should.

Selective Copy of Key Rates Deleted Amounts in the Destination Orgs.

In 2014, performing a Selective Copy of Key Rates, from the Consolidations menu, caused the values of some other accounts (that were not set up with a Databank Category of Key Rate) to be deleted in the targeted months. The source organization’s values were not affected.

Example of Deleted Values

Principal Only Codes Were Interpreted Incorrectly

In 2014, the download program was handling the codes set up for the Principal Only field in exactly the opposite way that it should have. Records that were identified as Principal Only were treated like Principal & Interest, and vice versa.

Now, the program handles the Principal Only codes correctly.

Closed Accounts Could be Included in Number of Accounts Statistic

Download extract files can be set up to count records with closed dates and to count zero balance records for statistical purposes (by clearing the Exclude $0 Balance Records from Statistical Counts setting). When this was done, a closed account would be included in the Number of Accounts statistic if its closed date was not the same as the current month. The count of closed accounts was still accurate.

Now, records with a zero balances and closed dates that are different from the current month will be ignored.

Prepayment Speed Category Names That Begin with a Number

In 2014, setting up a Prepay Rate Speeds category with a name that began with a number, in the Prepay Rate Tables Setup screen, caused a problem in the Prepayment Speeds setting, on the Matr/Repr tab of Chart of Accounts Setup. The category beginning with a number was incorrectly displayed above the <manual> option, in the selection list, and caused the <manual> option not to work. When <manual> was selected and a value was entered for any of the rate shocks, the value was not saved.

2014 2015

The 2015 behavior has been corrected to match that of the 2012 versions.

Projected Subtotal Values Distributed Incorrectly to Detail Accounts

When projecting new volume on subtotals, the pro-rata distribution to the detail accounts was being calculated on the detailed accounts’ New Volume amounts instead of on the Month End balances.

Now, the distribution action will use the Month End balances, which matches the 2012 behavior.

PROFITstar Only

Fair Value – Combined (Last Calc) Report Cut Off Long Account Titles

Account titles, which approached the long title limit of 32 characters, were cut off on the Fair Value – Combined (Last Calc) report.

Now, the column will widen enough to display any long account titles.

Calculating FV from Projection Strategies Produced Incorrect Results

In the Fair Value Strategies grid, it was observed that the key rates were being projected incorrectly, with zero being used for the Flat and any Projected Rates scenarios, or with the current month’s rates being used for specified future months. In addition, the Flat rate scenario was using not using the correct cash flows when attempting to calculate for a future date.

These problems are corrected in the current release.

Save Products Option Did Not Always Refresh Products Setup Screen

In the Products Setup screen, the Save Products right-click option did not always refresh the screen properly. At times, accounts that were already selected could still appear in the Available Accounts list.

Allocation Rules More Than 10 Years Old Could Not Be Deleted

In prior versions, deleting an allocation rule with an effective date more than 10 years old seemed to work, but when Allocation Rules Setup was reopened, the rule reappeared.

Since the Eff. Dates box only included month selections for 10 years, the program tried to delete just the part of the rule that was fell within that range of dates.

In 2015, the contents of the Eff. Dates box are updated for rules that are more than 10 years old and the deletion of such rules is now successful.

PROFITstar Budget Manager

QTD & YTD Non-Interest Income/Expense Values Appeared Incorrect

Previously, the QTD/YTD values for newly created Income/Expense subledgers, at totaling levels, appeared incorrect. Since the subledger accounts did not exist in history, values for the calculated QTD and YTD rows did not start accumulating until the first budget time frame containing a balance.

For example, in the screen shown below, the current month of history is February. However, the QTD and YTD values for March, in the lower grid, do not include the historical amount, which was the balance from the parent account (Insurance - Misc). Beginning in April, the QTD calculation starts over and is correct from that point forward, The YTD values are not correct until the next year begins.

QTD/YTD Values, at the Account ('Total') Level, for Newly Created Subledgers

In the latest release, the historical amount of the parent account is included in the QTD and YTD calculations.
