This month’s moral focus is Respect. But what does respect mean? The dictionary defines respect as, “to have consideration.” When you show re-spect you are consider-ate towards others: property, opinions, and space. Respect is im-portant because if you don’t show considera-tion to others, they won’t show it to you.

The middle school stu-dents of Foundations know this all too well. This month some of the sixth graders were visit-ed by Percy. Percy is a piranha who eats stu-dents fish cards and takes their things if they don’t keep their work space clean. Do you think Foundations sixth graders showed respect when they didn’t keep

their lockers orga-nized? Did Percy show respect by tak-ing students’ things? This month try to think about how you can show respect and what respect means to you.

I’m here with Daniel and Makenna asking them about the student creed. Q. Have you seen anyone really follow the student creed? A. Daniel: Yes, the name of that person is Cici Kriska. She does the right

thing when she doesn’t need to and does the right thing when the teacher isn’t looking. Q. What part of the creed do you follow the most? A. Daniel: The parts of the creed I follow the most are I Exemplify High Moral Character and I Work Diligently to Prepare for the Fu-ture because I follow all of it because I try my

hardest to exemplify high moral character and to prepare for the future. A. Makenna: The part of the creed that I follow the most is I Strive to Achieve Academic Ex-cellence because my teacher last year helped me understand it better. Q. Why do you think we need the creed? A. Daniel: I think we need the creed because it reminds us that we are

part of Foundations Academy, reminds me that we can accomplish big things in school and life, and that we exempli-fy high moral character. Q. Is the creed im-portant to you? Why? A. Daniel: Yes, it is very important to me because it helps me understand my goals in life. A. Makenna: Yes, be-cause it represents Foun-dations Academy.

fire department in New York heard about it, they were on the scene. The fire was too big to put out so they let the fire burn. President George W. Bush said, “America was under attack.” Planes were grounded, but the only aircrafts that were able to fly were military. It took several days to find survivors.

Currently, the two tow-ers are being rebuilt. However, they will not be as tall as before. The construction workers are also planting a tree called a “Survivor Tree” because they found it in the wreckage of the twin towers. Let us never for-get that horrible day when America was un-

Recently I saw the mov-ie “Soul Surfer.” This is quite an amazing movie! Soul Surfer is about a girl who gets her arm bitten off by a shark; so

she can’t surf. Through-

to work with her prob-lem so that she can do what she loves to do best: surf. The mes-sage this movie is sending out is: just because you aren’t

like anybody else or you might have other prob-lems DOES NOT mean you give up! Just work hard and persevere and you will do amazing things.

Let’s get to know our newer students better by finding out more about them. I went around and asked them some ques-tions... What is your favorite subject? Kaitlyn (a Kindergarten-er): “I like to color.” Taylor Osbourn (a 6th

grader) replied, “I like ELA because we are writing fantasy, and fantasy is my favorite type of story to write.’’ Another question I asked was, “What are your hobbies?” Kelsi (in 4th grade) said, “I love to play with ani-mals.” Taylor Osbourn

responded, “I like to do crafts, especially wax paintings.’’ The last question I asked was “What are your favorite things about Foundations so far?” Garret Glover (a 6th grader) said, “The teachers are funny

I am interviewing two new sixth grade teachers: Ms. Eckdahl and Mr. Carlson. Q: Do you like teaching so far? Eckdahl: Yes, because it

is way better then working at Star-bucks or

and teaching it. Carlson: I would teach 4/5 grade science because I

love 4 and 5th grades and I love teaching science. Q: If you could go any-where in the world where would it be and

why? Eckdahl: I would go to Senegal because I could see my family. Carlson: Europe, because I would like to ride my bike all around there. Now you know about these teachers and can look for-ward to having them as your teacher!

The question of the month is: “What are you enjoying about the new school year so far?” Here is what people around school had to say. Cici Kriska: “I enjoy switch-ing classes and having lockers because it helps me stay organized.” Car-

ol Cull: “I enjoy learn-ing new things and meeting new people. I have made so many new friends. This year is starting out great!” Jeremiah Randolph: “I am enjoying getting to know my teachers. They are very nice and

I am learning a lot about science from Mr. Carlson.” Rico Palo-mino: I am liking rotat-ing classes and I am enjoying specials.” Mrs. Saffy (the office): I am enjoying meeting new students and their parents. I have also

enjoyed working with my new office part-ner Mrs. Szafraniec.” See you next time and maybe you’ll be the next Falcon to answer the question of the month.

Last Friday, Mr. Weiler an-nounced the Falcons of the Week. If you were a 5th or 6th grade winner you got a fish card or a purple signa-ture in your planner. Every-one’s heart was racing until he finally said the names! The Winners were: 1st: Aidan T., Ollin M., Gian-na G., & Mason N. 2nd: Hayden A., Carter G., Caleb R., & Makenzie C.

3rd: Hailey K. Mark J., Lia G., & Payton S. 4th: Elijah C., Avery J., Payton L., & Jeffery L. 5th: Hannah R., Kallen F., Katrina

S., & Scott R. 6th: Kurtis S., Garret G., Briana M., & Kiana L. These kids had been showing moral character since the first day they walked into that gym. In the dictionary Moral means: a lesson to be learned. Charac-ter means: the attributes one holds. I’m sure these kids showed these attributes. Who will get it next week?

nowhere, 2 minutes goes by and Mr. Weiler calls out, “T, eyes on me.”

Everyday in gym, stu-dents greet Mr. Weiler at the door. They get in lines and/or sit in circles. Mr. Weiler calls out for good news and about 30-40 hands shoot up in the air. As Mr. Weiler calls on students 1 by 1, the children work on not talking over the speaker. This is a day in the life of gym. Classrooms gather up into their A’s, B’s, and C’s groups. The A’s run the B’s work out, and the C’s stretch. The blasting music drowns

play button and more loud music and laughter fills the gym. But once the 2 minutes are up, they switch. The tired kids push through 1 more rotation, and then they go into the main part of gym. Mr. Weiler always plans a fun game to do. For example: capture the flag, foot-ball, or “Dr. Weiler Ball.” “All right, T eyes on me!” After playing the activity, the students leave and in comes his next class.

Tiger Salamanders are an amazing pet. They’re really wet and eat insects and mealworms. They climb on high rocks and try to catch flies. When you try to pick them up they get frightened and zoom; they run away.

Many salamanders are in the water 80% of the

day, and they shed;

gross! When you pick them up they could bite you, but it doesn’t

hurt because they don’t have teeth. You can either find them in window

wells, swamps, lakes, or at the pet store. Sal-amanders are stupen-dous!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a great book because it has a lot of action and adventure. It is the 7th and final book in the

Harry Potter series. Har-ry, Ron and Hermione are being chased by death eaters (servants of the dark Lord Volda-mort) and are in search

of the “deathly hallows.” These are three magical artifacts that can let you master death. There are many twists and turns to the story, so it keeps you

on the edge of your seat! In the last chapter it goes 16 years into the future… but you can read that yourself to find out what happens.
