Through a new Additional Roles Reimbursement

Scheme, Networks will be guaranteed funding for

an up to estimated 20,000+ additional staff by

2023/24:

• Clinical pharmacists (from 2019/20)

• Social prescribing link workers (from

2019/20)

• Physiotherapist (from 2020/21)

• Physician associates (from 2020/21)

• Paramedics (from 2021/22)

What will PCNs do? • From July 2019, PCNs have been delivering extended hours services – so

patients are able to see a health care professional outside of usual opening

hours. This service might be offered in all practices in a network, or maybe in

one or two practices for all patients in that network.

• PCNs will focus on the health needs of their particular patient population

using information provided by Public Health, CCGs and from GP clinical

systems.

• Over the next five years PCNs will employ additional staff to provide a wider

range of services for their patients either at their GP practice or nearby.

• PCNs will work more closely with community services to support patients

who need more than just health care.
