Annual Charge Conference
Our annual Charge Conference will be Sunday,
October 13, 2019 at First United Methodist Church,
507 West Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL at 6:00
p.m. We will be carpooling from the church for those
who would like to go. We will meet at our church and
leave from there at 4:45 p.m.
Financial Report and *Pastor’s Message
Unfortunately, we have fallen behind the giving we received
in 2018 which means that some have not maintained their
pledges. You may recall we did not ask for you to increase
your pledges for 2019, just to maintain the same level as the
previous year.
This has created a very tight cash flow situation. Even though
staff has managed to reduce expenses we are still struggling.
Some staff have purchased needed items from their personal
funds and held off requesting reimbursement until we have
sufficient funds.
You will note in July’s financial statement that expenses took
a significant increase. This was due to catching up on our
reserves; which we are happy to report are now fully funded
through August. Also, on a positive note apportionments are
87% paid through August.
The ongoing problem is due to the decline in giving which
only you can help us solve. If you each give at the same level
as 2018, we will share the blessings of fully funding our
missions and programs.
*Pastor Shirley felt this really needs our attention and is important to
keep the church functioning, therefore she is making this the Pastor’s
message for September.

Did you know…?
Because of your generosity the students at Booker Middle School started the school year with supplies they needed
Because of your stewardship we have paid 87% of our 2019 apportionments for this year, which means we are over three fourths of the way in seven months.
Because of your faithfulness, we are making a difference in the community that surrounds us.
God is moving in wonderful ways. We just wanted to make sure you knew!
Kingdom Kids
We welcome all children and grandchildren (K-5th grade) to our “Kingdom Kids” class at 10:00 a.m. during the worship service.
We also have an Adult Class that meets before Worship please join them at 8:45 in the west wing room 310/311.
Trustees Wish List
Lawn mower
We are in need of a zero turn small to medium size lawn mower for
the areas the large lawn mower can’t fit but too large an area to push a
lawn mower. The current one we have is just limping along.
We would like to finish up the work we started in the Fellowship Hall.
This is the last wish list of item needed to finish the area to make it more
presentable. Monetary donations are always welcome also.
Paint and roller covers (we have enough
brushes) for painting the remainder of the halls
and possibly the office area.
Thank you to those who have already contributed to these projects.
Summer Sunday
Luncheons
Sunday, September 1, 2019 we will have
our monthly Summer Sunday
Luncheon. Please bring a dish to share
and join us for a short time of fellowship
after worship. Look forward to seeing
you there!
At the end of September, we will be collecting items to help
Remnant Café provide showers to those who visit the café and
the items they launder. We will be doing this rather than
providing the Bags of Hope. Below is a list of the items that we
will be collecting. The staff as well as the clients will appreciate
what we are doing.

ZOE UPDATE
Promotion Empowerment Group, St. Francis, Zimbabwe
Shared Partnership with Saint James UMC and First United
Methodist Church of Sarasota
March 2019 – February 2022 Name List: Before an empowerment group name list is created, Zoe
staff members take time to get to know the youth. They make home visits to
record information about the children, their dependents, and caregivers. They
assess if any emergency interventions are required to alleviate health issues,
abusive conditions, or inadequate shelter. Once they have confirmed who is
eligible for the Zoe program, and have allowed time for the children who are not
interested to drop out and others to join, then the staff creates the name list.
Please note, children joining the Zoe program often have no parents or birth
documentation, and have suffered multiple traumas in their young lives.
Sometimes they are suspicious of outsiders asking questions. For these reasons,
the children occasionally provide erroneous information which we later correct.
On the next page is the list of names and a picture of your specific group.
The names underlined are heads of household, followed by their siblings and
dependents. Although Zoe records both first and second names, we use only first
names in public lists to preserve the privacy of the children in the program. The
ages of the orphans and vulnerable children in the Zoe program range between
infant and college age; however, the youth who is the head of household must
be old enough to manage a small business and so is usually between 14 and 21
years old.
Some of the children live with an elderly grandparent or disabled
caregiver. Most often such arrangements include shelter only and the caregiver
is unable to provide food, education, health care or other support which children
need. Child rights are especially important in such situations so that the children
are not abused.
The children are encouraged and strengthened by the knowledge that their
partner is not only supporting them with resources, but also with prayer and
in the belief that they are capable of great things. Thank you for making this
journey of transformation with them.
