What your Shoes Say About You
Your shoes do more than protect your feet or add a bit of style to your outfit. Science has proven
that the shoes that you choose to wear say a lot about your personality, income, age, and even
your ability to get along with others. It might sound impossible, but a study conducted by the
University of Kansas proves that complete strangers can tell a lot about a person simply by
analyzing their footwear collection. The next time that you slip on your favorite worn out
sneakers or your dressy Alden shoes, just remember that others could be judging you on your
shoe choice.
Judging your Confidence
Are you a confident person? It will be displayed in your shoe choice. For women, the higher the
heel and the sassier the style, the more confident the woman is likely to be on an everyday basis.
Those women with a more adventurous side or a laissez-faire attitude will take more chances
with their footwear, not worrying about blisters or foot pain. Women that are more down-to-earth
or middle-of-the-road type gals will stick with more sensible shoes. They are less likely to try
high heels for fear of making a fool of themselves.
Men, women are judging your shoes too. Whether you effortlessly slip on a pair of easy-to-wear
Keen shoes, or are more high maintenance with sleek leather shoes that must be polished on a
weekly basis, women are judging what you are wearing. If you are a laid back type of guy, your
shoes likely reflect it with choices such as slip-ons, easy to wear sneakers, or traditional
moccasins. If you are more of a sophisticated man with expensive tastes, you likely have a
collection of dressy shoes to match every button down shirt in your closet.
Are you an Introvert or Extrovert?
Do you have a shy personality or do you march to the beat of your own drum? Take a look at
your shoe collection to find out. Do you have the brightest colors and latest styles in your closet,
no matter how wacky or wild? If so, you are more of an extrovert and do not care what others
think. For you, the flashier your shoes are, the happier you become. For the introverts, chances
are your shoe collection is a little tamer, with a few pairs of Sperry shoes in neutral colors. It’s
also possible that you wear your favorite New Balance shoes everywhere, not just to the gym.
Are you Passive or Aggressive?
Believe it or not, others can tell whether you are more agreeable or are more likely to go head-to-
head with someone based on your choice of shoes. Are your shoes typically more on the
comfortable side, meaning that you do not wear those shoes that would possibly provide blisters
at the end of a long day? If so, you are more of the agreeable type and just like to be comfortable
all day long. On the other hand, if your shoes are trendy, yet not over-the-top, meaning that you
can still wear them all day without feeling uncomfortable, you are more likely to be of the
aggressive type. Women that don stiletto heels all day and more than likely come home with
aching, tired feet are those with the calmest personality – whatever happens to their poor feet is
necessary collateral damage. They just want to fit in with today’s hottest trends.
Shoes serve many purposes when it comes to your wardrobe. Before you slip on your favorite
pair next time, think about the message that you are conveying. Do you want to be viewed as a
more sophisticated, put-together type of person? Check out some of the hottest styles from Alden
