Message from the MayorCr Jake KeoghI am proud that Knox City Council offers the Knox Seniors Festival as an opportunity to celebrate and value our older residents. This year’s festival commences on Monday 7 to Saturday 19 October 2019 and runs in conjunction with the Victorian Seniors Festival, which has a theme ‘Get in to it’.

Fortunately, through our Knox Over 55s Zest4Life program, there is something to enjoy throughout the year. No matter your interest, there are so many activities you can ‘get in to’ including dancing, jazz, art, comedy, sport, cooking, bus tours, photography and more!

I encourage you to have a good read of this guide and ensure you book your activities early. I hope you have fun, meet new people and make new friends while trying something new or different at little or no cost.

The guide aims to provide information on a range of groups and programs available to help older adults to lead and manage an active, healthy and positive lifestyle.

The guide helps to support older residents to remain independent by providing them with the knowledge and skills to make the most out of the Knox community.

All attempts have been made to ensure the accuracy of the information provided within this guide at the time of printing.

To update information or to submit a seniors group for inclusion in the next Knox Community Seniors Guide, please phone 9298 8828 and ask for Linda or email details to [email protected]

Community Learning CentresLifelong learning can be in the form of structured training such as adult education courses, volunteering with a local organisation or maintaining employment into your later years.

All of these contribute to improved physical and mental fitness, helping you maintain your independence and remain engaged with your community.

Knox has a number of Adult Learning Centres, Neighbourhood Houses and Community Houses - whatever the name; these places are the heart of the Knox community.

Refer to each of the Centre’s websites for current course brochures and enrolment details.

The Basin Community HouseThe Basin Community House provides adult education, classes for people with disabilities and community development programs for the residents of Knox. Many of the programs are assisted by volunteers.
