SAINT MARK’S BASILICA

Saint Mark's Basilica is a monument made unique by both its wealth of history and the magnificence of its façade and interior. In essence, it is a splendid workshop, where, through the centuries, worked great Italian and European artists. Its distinguishing Byzantine character appears particularly on the great mosaics illustrating St. Marco's tales, as well as the scenes of the Old and New Testament.

Designed by Baldassare Longhena, with a facade by Giuseppe Sardi. It

was built between 1660 and the beginning of the 18th century and was enriched by an image which

came from the Lazzaretto Vecchio, at that time also called the Island of

St. Mary of Nazareth, and was consecrated with this name in 1705.

The Basilica of St Mary of Health/Salvation, commonly known simply as the Salute, is a famous

church in Venice, placed scenically at a narrow finger of land which lies between the Grand Canal and the

dock of San Marco on the lagoon, visible as one enters the Piazza San Marco from the water.

The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, usually just called the Frari, is a church in Venice,

northern Italy. One the greatest churches in the city, it has the status of a minor basilica. It stands on the Campo dei Frari at the heart of the San Polo district. The church is dedicated to the Assumption (Italian:

Assunzione della Beata Vergine).

Murano is usually described as an island in the Venetian Lagoon, although like Venice itself it is actually an archipelago of islands linked by bridges. It lies about a mile north of Venice and is famous for its glass making, particularly lampworking. It was once an independent town, but is now a locality of Venice.

Burano is an island in the Northern Venetian Lagoon, 11 Km northeastern far from Murano and Venice, to which it is connected by the Canale Bisatto - Canale Carbonera - Scomenzera San Giacomo's trail: this route takes 45 minutes by boat. This island is easily reachable also from Treporti (10 minutes) and Punta Sabbioni (30 minutes), two Cavallino-Treporti's resorts which overlook on the lagoon.

The different colours of Burano's houses, which today rappresent the our island main feature, at a previous time was useful to delimit the properties. However there legends related to them.

Torcello is a quiet and sparsely populated island at the northern end of the Venetian Lagoon. It is considered the

oldest continuously populated region of Venice, and once held the largest population of the Republic of Venice.
