VERY IMPORTANT: Don’t let others pick-up and pass the baby around during that important 1st hour after birth. Let mommy and baby bond and breastfeed. Others will have more than enough time to meet baby. This 1st hour is very important for baby’s health and the beginning of breast-feeding. The best place for baby is with mommy.

Remember to buy a newspaper on the morning / day of baby’s birth. This is a cute keepsake to one day show baby.

Be the one to take over the burden of sharing baby’s birth with friends and family. Discuss how you would like to handle it; Facebook announcement, Instagram post of WhatsApp group and take the lead in doing this for mom.

Help with the “baby book” and fill out all the important info of the day - even if its just in pencil or on a separate paper. This will help mama a lot afterwards.

Be your wife and new baby’s protector. Regulate guest visits and don’t let others overwhelm the new mommy and baby. Be especially strict when siblings are meeting for the 1st time - this will be a treasured moment, remembered forever.

Leave the iPad, laptop and work at home. Enjoy these 1st few days with your wife and new little person. It’s the only time the world really “stops” just for you.

Any other basic everyday toiletries dad uses as well as shaving essentials. Stubble can hurt delicate newborn skin.
