self-esteem Skin donation: used for example as a life-saving covering for severely burned patients as well as abdominal wall repair or other reconstructive applications.

“My son was all about life and giving in life.

That’s what all our lives were meant to be–

sharing our lives with others, giving the gift of life.”

—Steve Oelrich

At age 15, Zachary A.’s doctor told him he had bone cancer in his left knee. He had 3/5’s of his tibia replaced with donated bone and has made a full recovery.

Bone donation: used to help reconstruction related to trauma or cancer and also to restore mobility and reduce pain.

Christina L. was born with Shone’s syndrome, a hereditary defect which caused an obstruction in her left heart valve.

Cardiovascular donation: used in life-saving heart valve transplants for children and patients with heart defects.

Nationally, over 900,000 people were helped last year through tissue donation, and over 20,000 people donated tissues.

One person’s gift is a miracle for many, enabling those who would not live a normal life to have a second chance.

Tissue Donation Is About

Helping Give the Gift of Life.

“My son was all about life and giving in life. That’s what all our lives were meant to be–sharing our lives with others, giving the gift of life.”

In 1995, Alachua County Sheriff Stephen Oelrich’s 18-year-old son, Nick, died as a result of a tragic fall. It is known today that he has saved and enhanced the lives of 108 people through his organ and tissue donations. Sheriff Oelrich’s personal experience led him to take action on a national level. He developed the National Sheriffs’ Association Gift of Life Foundation to increase awareness of the need to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

Donor families find great comfort in knowing that their gift is able to help others.866-432-1164 • www.donorcare.org
