Anne Edwards earned her medical degree, completed a pediatric residency and was chief resident at the University of Minnesota where she continues to hold an adjunct faculty position. As chair of pediatrics at Park Nicollet Health Services in Minneapolis, she is responsible for numerous outpatient and inpatient pediatric quality initiatives. Currently, the immediate past-president of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, she now chairs the MN-AAP policy committee. Previously having served on the AAP’s Vision of Pediatrics 2020 Task Force, she now serves on the the AAP’s Committee on State Government Affairs and as a liaison to the Early Brain Child Development Coordinating task force. As an advocate addressing issues surrounding health disparities, including immunization disparities, Dr. Edwards is active in numerous grassroots initiatives addressing autism, immunizations and the Somali community including the MN Autism Somali Community Coalition and MN Autism Summit Task Force. Additionally, she is lead physician for a HRSA funded project, “Investing in Health and Early Learning for New Americans,” which links new immigrants and medical homes through the use of community health workers. Dr. Edwards was co-founder of the Minnesota Child Health Improvement Partnership (MNCHIP), a collaborative effort to support pediatric quality initiatives. She previously served on the Minnesota Medical Home Advisory Committee as well as the Payment Reform Working Group for the MN Legislative Access Commission and continues to participate on several state and national quality improvement initiatives including MN Kids Integrated Depression System advisory committee, MN Community Measures preventative care measure committee, U of WA CHIPRA Center of Excellence for Children with Complex Needs team member, and expert panel member to inform study development of a rigorously designed, quality assessment tool that can be used to measure the quality of primary care for children who are considered “complex patients” by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

Dr. Henry Kanarek has been an allergist treating adults and children in Overland Park Kansas for eighteen years. He attended Medical school at The Universidad LaSalle in Mexico City, Mexico. Then returned to Kansas City for his three-year pediatric residency done at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Followed by a two year Adult and Pediatric Fellowship in Allergy Asthma and Immunology, at University of Kansas Medical Center, and The Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City Missouri. He is married to Kristi, and has two young sons, Ethan and Oliver, and his two older sons, Martin and Jeremy are practicing attorneys. He is in private practice treating allergies, asthma, food allergies, atopic dermatitis, COPD, Urticaria, Angioedema, recurrent sinusitis, recurrent otitis media, Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease, and immunodeficiency. Dr. Henry Kanarek belongs to the following speakers bureaus: Astra Zeneca, Glaxo Smith Kline, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and Strativa Pharmaceuticals. He is a clinical investigator working with The Center for Pharmaceutical Research in Kansas City. He speaks almost weekly throughout the entire year educating physicians, medical personnel, and families on asthma, and allergic diseases.

Russell E. Scheffer, MD, FAPA, FAACAP Chair, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine KU School of Medicine—Wichita Wichita, KS Dr. Scheffer graduated from KUMC in Kansas City in May 1991. He trained in General and then Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the US Army at DD Eisenhower AMC in Fort Gordon, GA. He sees clinical patients, conducts federally funded research, teaches at all levels and works with community organizations to improve the health of patients with mental illness. He has been a Training Director, Inpatient and Outpatient Director, and Division Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry prior to moving back to KUMC as Chair and Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics. His interests include bipolar and psychotic disorders, psychopharmacology, ADHD, early intervention and innovative ways to treat patients. In the past 4 years, he developed a state wide system of treating patients with ADHD, depression, and anxiety disorders in conjunction with primary care clinicians.

Pam Shaw, MD, FAAP Professor of Pediatrics

Dr. Pam Shaw is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Her duties include Vice-Chair for Education for the department of Pediatrics. For the university, she is the Director of the Phase II or year 3-4 curriculum and the medical director of the Neis Clinical Skills lab. Dr. Shaw has been active in service to the hospital and Kansas University Physicians Incorporated and has served on numerous committees for the hospital and the university. She has been involved in and past chair in many outside committees for the state including the Peer Education and Resource Committee for Medicaid and the Kansas Maternal Child Health Council established by Kansas Department of Health and Environment to help with policy issues for children and parents. She is the past president of the Kansas Chapter of the AAP and is involved in work to help private practice physicians offer evidence based and quality care to children including developmental screening, mental health services detection and treatment of obesity and oral health services. Her undergraduate degree was in Human Biology at the University of Kansas. She attended medical school and did her pediatric residency at the University of Kansas in Kansas City, Ks. After experiencing private practice, Dr. Shaw returned to the University of Kansas in 1990 where she has been involved in the teaching and practice of general pediatrics since then. She is married and has three sons. She loves to read and travel and watch sporting events, especially KU basketball.

Lynne Edgar Lynne Edgar is a stay-at-home mom of a 14 year old boy and 11 year old girl. Prior to relocating to Wichita, she was an accountant with Hallmark Cards, Inc. in Kansas City. She is active in church and school volunteer activities. Her lease favorite thing about vaccinations is pinning down her daughter for her shots, and her favorite thing about vaccinations is the ice cream afterwards.

Linda J. Sheppard is Director of the Accident & Health Division of the Kansas Insurance Department and is also serving as Project Manager for the Department's implementation of the insurance provisions of PPACA. The Accident & Health Division is responsible for the regulation of health insurance companies doing business in the state of Kansas. Prior to rejoining the Insurance Department in April 2008, Ms. Sheppard was Deputy Attorney General for the Consumer Protection/Antitrust Division of the Office of the Kansas Attorney General. She also previously served as Assistant General Counsel for the Kansas Insurance Department and prior to joining the Department was in private practice with the law firm of Shughart Thomson & Kilroy (now Polsinelli Shughart) in Kansas City, Missouri, specializing in employment discrimination, labor, and construction law. Ms. Sheppard received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas. She is admitted to practice in the states of Missouri and Kansas. Ms. Sheppard’s employment experience prior to attending law school included positions in corporate management, human resources, employee benefits, and risk management.

Lee Stickle is a graduate of the University of Kansas and is educator who has worked with children with special needs for almost 30 years. During that time she has be recognized professional at the local, state and national levels for her service to children and families and for her role in the development of systems to better serve children with ASD and their families. Lee was the 2010 Autism Society Professional of the Year as well as the Council for Exceptional Children and the Kansas Association of Special Education Administrators Professional of the year. Currently, Lee is the Director of the Kansas Instructional Support Network, a statewide network funded by the Kansas State Department of Education’s Special Education Services to provided training and consultation to teachers and families that serve children with significant needs. Lee is a member of the Kansas Governor’s Commission on Autism, Network of Autism Training and Technical Assistance Projects, provided input to the Kansas Task Force on ASD, and reviews submissions to various conferences and publications.

Robert Wittler, MD is a professor of Pediatrics at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita. He served in the army for 13 years, completing his residency at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, a pediatric infectious disease fellowship at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, and a research fellowship at Walter Reed Army Research Institute in Washington, DC. Dr. Wittler is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Disease. He serves on numerous school and hospital committees. Dr. Wittler has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and has received several awards for his teaching including the 2001 Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of Kansas.
