What the law says about marriage in England and Wales
The legal age to enter into a marriage in England and Wales is 16 years, although this requires the consent of parents/guardians if a party is under 18.
Certain relatives are not allowed to marry.
Same sex marriage was made legal in March 2014 (the Marriage Act (Same Sex Couples)).
