WHAT: THE FORMATION OF THE TRIANGULAR TRADE AND PLANTATION LIFEWHY: CONNECTION TO SS COMPONENTS – GEOGRAPHY, ECONOMICS, SOCIOLOGY

DO NOW: WHERE DID SLAVERY MOSTLY DEVELOP AND WHAT WERE THE MAJOR REASONS FOR ITS DEVELOPMENT?

I. Plantation life

Owners and overseers abused slaves and slaves lived in bad housing conditions

Different jobs included work on the fields to harvest crops, complete chores in the master’s house and around the plantation

Plantations were self-sufficient (able to provide for itself without any outside help)

Most of the white population did not own plantations with slaves

II. Triangular trade

Exchange of goods and people between Europe, West Africa and the Americas – 17th and 19th centuries

Slave trade, raw materials and manufactured goods (products that are made by workers from raw materials)
