What’s in a degree? That could mean
anything, right? Well,
today it has to do with
temperature. It is
amazing how much it
has cooled off in the
last couple weeks. I’m
not going to lead you
astray and tell you that
I am sad. I am actually
quite ready for cooler
temperatures. I went
hunting last week and
when I came home, it
was quite a bit cooler. I
have enjoyed wearing
pants this week (instead
of shorts ). I know I
say it every year, but I
always look forward to
the seasons changing.
This time of year is
especially amazing as
the colors on the
aspens change from
green, to red, to
orange, and then
yellow. Watching that
transformation happen
each year is another
testament to the
creativity of our God.
Romans 1:21 says “For
since the creation of
the world God’s
invisible qualities—His
eternal power and
divine nature—have
been clearly seen,
being understood from
what has been made,
so that men are without
excuse” (NIV). We
recently talked about
evolution and creation
and I can personally
see evidence of that
creation everywhere I
look… especially this
time of year!
As September draws to a
close and October begins, my
mind has been on where we
were a year ago and how
much has changed since
then! Last year we were
anxiously awaiting travel to
pick up our sweet girl! We
were saddened by the fact
that she would be spending
her 2nd birthday without us,
and yet hopeful that very soon
we would get to be a family!
On Sunday the 29th, we will
celebrate Abigail's 3rd
Birthday, her 1st Birthday with
us! This October will mark a
year since we met her, got to
hold her, and
officially
became a
family of 6.
As I reflect on
what this year
has been,
growing, learning, bonding
and becoming a family
through adoption, I can't help
but think of how God adopted
each of us into his family! Prior
to us coming into His family I
can picture God anxiously,
eagerly, hopefully waiting for
us to make that decision. For
us to come to meet Him and
the joy He must
have felt holding
us in His arms that
first time! Ephesians
1:4-5 says "For he chose us in
him before the creation of the
world to be holy and
blameless in his sight. In love
he predestined us for
adoption to sonship through
Jesus Christ, in accordance
with his pleasure and will." He
planned ahead of time for us
to be in his family! When we

WHAT’S
HAPPENING
KIM’S KORNER
Now, I know what you might
be thinking: “Just on the last
page, you were talking about
enjoying the temperature
cooling down.” True, but I am
also thinking about plans for
next summer. I am currently
unsure about what Middle
School Camp is going to look
like. We may not be going
back to Four Corners Christian
Camp like we have been
doing for the last several
years. So, I am trying to figure
that one out. Our High School
trip this summer will be a
conference. I mentioned that
at the beginning of the year,
so you may have heard this
already. Chances are pretty
good that we will be going
back to a CIY (Christ in Youth)
conference. I have been to 3
CIY conferences over the last
6 or 7 years and they have all
been amazing. Registration
opens up for CIY on October
1st and I will likely be
registering our group then.
Dates and location are not
known just yet… I’ll nail that
down when the details are
available on the 1st. I am
telling you this incase you are
interested in going. Spots will
go to the first students that
pay a deposit (non-
refundable $100) and I
anticipate them to go fast.
We will have a lot of High
School students next summer
and I am also trying to figure
out how to get everyone to
the conference. I do not
want to leave anyone behind
that wants to go. The cost is
still undetermined, but will
likely be around $650 per
student. We can talk about
the individual needs of each
family if needed. I will
certainly have more details in
next month’s issue of What’s
Happening, but if you have
any questions before that,
please ask them.

LET’S THINK “SUMMER”
KIM’S KORNER… CONT.
first met Abigail, she did not
immediately come to us. We
had to stand back a little bit and
let her decide to come to
us. One particular night in New
Dehli, she wanted nothing to do
with Eric or I and every time we
came into her view she would
scream and cry. She ended up
laying on the floor by our hotel
room door sobbing. There was
nothing we could do to make it
better. She was heart broken
and we just had to sit back and
wait for her to be OK with letting
us come to her and help, for her
to let us love her. Our
relationship with God is much the
same. He wanted it to be our
choice to join his family and that
makes it all the more sweet
when we finally make that
decision to let him love us, to
pick us up off the floor and
cradle us in his arms. Once we
make that decision then the
learning, growing, and bonding
can begin!
Adoption is a beautiful thing.
We all have the opportunity to
be adopted by the One True
King, to become his sons and
daughters!

What’s Happening
HIGH SCHOOL FUNDRAISING
I am planning on doing a Dessert Auction the
first Sunday of November. These are always
fun and they are a great way to mix
fundraising with fellowship. If you are
interested in going on the above mentioned
High School trip, I would encourage you to
participate in this event. I will ask each
student to make and donate 2 desserts of
your choosing. Each student that participates
in this event will get an equal split of the
money to go towards their cost of the 2020
High School trip. Let me know if you are
interested in participating or have any
questions.
