28 Exclusive Interview with BK! What or who inspired you to become a Photographer? I always loved photography in High school. I met a photographer named Kyneta Lee and working with her really inspired me to pursue the art again. She gave me the camera I still use today. Once I got back into photography I pulled inspiration from Ansel Adams, Eddie Adams, Hans Aarsman, and Gordon Parks. Later I gain respect for Bill Jones' 40 years of black celebrity photograph work and Sally Mann. Are there any photographers you look up to and why? Ansel Adams because of his dedication to landscapes and the tonal range (Zone System) detail. Eddie Adams for his service in the United States Marine Corps and bravery to reenter the combat zone after service to capture award winning images. Hans Aarsman because he is an author/photographer with some of the greatest photobooks I’ve seen in the history of landscape photography. Gordon Parks for being a filmmaker/ photographer who tells a story in every photo. I respect his public service and activism for just causes. Are there any photographers you would love to work with and who? Bill Jones is an inspirational Black photographer. I'd love to learn from him in person. Sally Mann has very graphic and memorable photographic work. She travels and is invited places I'd love to go! I'd love to meet such a talented, inspirational woman.

Exclusive InterviewHow would you describe your style of shooting and photos? I love outdoor photography. Both nature and model photography. My style is very much perspective mixed with artistic. I aim to capture the subject's true nature and make relevant to the viewers.

What was your favourite shoot you have ever done and why?I had so many great shoots but my favorite recent shoot was in Hamburg, Germany with Nikita! It lasted two days we shoot for 12+ hours and everything just seemed to work out. I got so many styles covered from this photoshoot session!Did you enjoy shooting the photos in this magazine? It was one of the best shoots I had! Great model, Nikita Rumyantsev! Great studio producer, Christoph Aulrich! Fun times! We shot my first high fashion shoot, first candy shoot, first traditional german cultural dress, artistic nudes, boudoir, casual outdoor, casual indoor, and parts photography. Nikita did a great job on her make-up as well. I think this shoot represented fun. I think the viewers can tell from the "feel" of the photos. I usually dedicate all my "pink" photoshoots to breast cancer awareness. Everyone knows about breast cancer but very few thinks about it before it hits home. What makes a perfect photo? Composition and innovation.

30 Exclusive Interview with BK!

What have been some highlights since you started being a photographer? Veronica Venom really helped me develop my model-photographer relationships. We have done so many shoots and been through alot! It really prepared me for all my model shoots following. I first learned about shooting RAW format with Kyneta Lee while joining a photo group. After I started shooting RAW, my work went to another level. Another highlight was the birth of my first child. I learned alot from the hospital photographer about child/newborn photography. I couldn't wait to use it! Lastly, I am very competitive. I have really enjoyed challenging and being challenged by local artist to take my work and business to the next level. I even had a friendly competition with a music video producer about "who will get noticed first," lol now I know there is always another degree of "noticed" an artist can reach. So we keep pushing farther saying "I meant the next level!" Where do you see yourself in five years? Enjoying life, serving my community, and doing what I love! I could do that forever.

In your opinion, are there any requirements to being a photographer? Develop an eye. I once had someone tell me that only born talents have “the eye”. It may be true, but hard work and training teachings you what to look for.

What advice would you give to aspiring photographers? If you are a photographer who shoots people, then you should love being social. "If you don't love everybody, you can't sell anybody!" Dicky Fox. -Jerry Maguire (This quote describes one of the most important keys to 21st century success) Network Network Network! Then network some more. Never know who is who or who knows who.
