Scavenger Hunt!•Each day we will go on at least one scavenger hunt which will indicate the beginning of your break.

•Your goal is to try and find the location given the clues from Mrs. Matta

•If you find the correct location, you will find a sheet of stickers, make sure you put the sticker on your paper and answer the question!

•Each sticker and correct answer will receive 1 bonus point towards your final average!

The clue of the day is….Locate Mrs. Mattacchione’s math office. How many windows are in the office?

Prime verses Composite NumberDefinitions:

Prime – An integer greater than one is called a prime number if and only if its only positive divisors ( factors) are one and itself.

Why: One is not a prime number by this definition but also because of the purpose of primes. Euclid needed to know when an integer n factored into a product of smaller integers, hence he was interested in those numbers which did not factor. Two is the only prime even number

Interesting Fact: The Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic: Every positive integer greater than one can be written uniquely as a product of primes, with the prime factors in the product written in order of nondecreasing size.

Prime verses Composite NumberDefinitions:

Composite – An integer greater than one is called a composite number if and only if the number can be divided by at least one other integer besides itself and one without leaving a remainder.

Example to compare and contrast prime vs. composite number:

3 is a prime number because its factors are only 3 x 1 and nothing else24 is a composite number because its factors are 1 x 24; 2 x 12; 3 x 8; 4 x 6 which has more factors than just 1 x itself.
