What it does?

The SharePoint Cascading Lookup plus is a new lookup field type that adds the ability to create cascading fields, to perform cross site filtered lookup, and to create Dual (two-way)

lookup between SharePoint lists!

Why did we create it?

× WSS and MOSS platforms do not support OOTB Cascading fields ("master-

details“)

× Lookup fields in WSS and MOSS platforms do not support cross-site lookup

× There is no way in SharePoint to connect two lists (create a two-way

connection)

× There is no solution for creating One -to- Many or Many-to-Many

relationships in SharePoint

× SharePoint does not allow filtering lookup data while editing, nor adding new

items to the lookup selection without interrupting the editing process

Lets create a new item…

The grid display mode of the Cascading Lookup

field allows you to view and select the desired

items from the connected list

Lets create a new item…

If you want to add a new item to the connected list you can do it right from

the edit form of this item,

simply click ‘Create new item’ no redirection

needed!

Now if we want to edit the new item created

Create the new item, then click refresh on the

lookup field and the new item is ready for use!

Check or uncheck items in the selection grid, use the actions

panel to clear selection, cancel or

accept changes

Now if we want to edit the new item created

Lets create a new Cascading Lookup

field for a different list

Upon installing the add-on the Cascading Lookup field

type will automatically appear on the create

column form

On the create new column form find a very important

option- convert existing (regular) lookup fields into

Cascading Lookup Plus

Simply click this link to get a pop-up window which allows

you to chose a lookup column to convert into Cascading

The pop-up window presents the current web site and list from which you can select a lookup field to convert into

Check the scope from which you want to receive the

lookup data, choose between the current site,

the site collection or another remote site

If you chose a remote site specify it’s URL and Click

Load

Chose the desired list and the specific

column from that list that will provide the

lookup data

Check to allow or remove multiple items selection

For multiple values the display is Grid, if the

column supports only single values you will be able to

chose between the grid and the dropdown display

Allow or remove the filtering options that appear while editing the content of this

column

Check this you remove the option to create new items in the looked-up list while editing the

field

Choose the fields that will be displayed in the ‘view item’ form

for all items in the Cascading Lookup column

Filter the Cascading lookup column by any column in the

current list, choose a field with the same filtering logic on the

lookup list

You can add secondary and third master columns to add

additional filtering to the Cascading Lookup field

Create a reverse lookup field to enable dual

connection between the current and the lookup

lists

Choose the column which content will

be displayed as the dual field on the

lookup list

When the chosen display is ‘Dropdown’ (for single value

fields only), different skins are available for the Dropdown

selection

Play with the skins until you find the one with the right look for your portals design!

That’s it, the new Cascading Lookup field

is ready for use!

reverse field in the lookup list

The Cascading Lookup field may be used in calculate

fields!

This ability is achieved by making a read only copy of the Cascading

Lookup field which is called

C_[current field]

Lets update an item with data for the new

Cascading Lookup field!

Choose the desired data for the new Cascading Lookup field

Notice that not all the items will appear in the current display if the lookup list is large, find items by browsing between the display pages

Click to sort ascending or descending according to any property

Use the filters to help you narrow down the item selection

Insert you filter data and then choose the filtering method that best suits the results you want

Note how the selection grid is easier to browse with the applied filter

Use the ‘selected’ option to review all checked or unchecked items before accepting changes (especially useful for large lookup lists)

Click on any item and receive a pop up window displaying it’s details from the remote lookup list!

Now we can see the new updated data!

If we choose to edit this item we see the reverse dropdown

Cascading Lookup usage scenarios

Relational applications Manage a connection between any two lists, with “CRM-like” interface-on every item’s “View Properties”

page! Create any of the following relationship types:

• 1 to many – such as Customer to Invoices

• 1 to 1 – such as resumes to job applicants

• Many to many – such as Classes to Student

Forms with Cascading Logic Easily filter field values by other fields in the same List, such as city filtered by country and region.
