WHAT IS THE BSA Innovation Design Challenge? Boys and girls in the Capitol Area Council, Boy Scouts of America (Central Texas area) will create a Mobile application that addresses a United Nations Sustainable Development goal using the Code.org app lab. Participants with the top designs will advance to a special event and pitch their design to a panel of industry tech leaders. Scouts with the top six designs will win between $500- $3,000 for their Scout unit. The BSA Innovation Design Challenge will allow Scouts to: • Use creative strategies to develop solutions that focus on a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal • Use computer science/engineering strategy to develop a project • Assess and modify the project through testing and the design process • Present their project and findings to tech industry leaders in their community Why participate in the BSA Innovation Design Challenge? Tomorrow's leaders must understand how to program computers and other smart devices. • Employment of computer and information research scientists is projected to grow 16% from now until 2028, faster than the average for other occupations. 1 • An estimated 1 million computer programming-related jobs in the US are expected to be unfilled this year. 2 • Computer science is one of the highest-paying fields, with an average starting salary of $65,900. 3 Through the BSA Innovation Design Challenge, Scouts will learn what is required to create an innovative solution and how to invent, innovate, and implement an idea that improves the community. Build Your App Day – Saturday March 28Why Scouts should go:

In order to help boys and girls build their apps for the challenge, we are introducing a new event: Build Your App Day. This free event will be at Anderson High School (8403 Mesa Dr, Austin, TX 78759) and is the best way to help finish (or start) your app!

9:00am-11:00am – Free class on wire framing and how to design your app for the Innovation Design Challenge (IDC). There will also be a lot of extra hints on how to fill in your submission form and create a winning project.

11:00am-5:00pm – Volunteers will be on site to help youth work on their apps and submission forms.
