• People are not just demographics anymore. To connect with them you need to understand relationships are more powerful than marketing

Today most of the big sites are mixed sites where users can post, blog, rate, and share.

Posting: What is a Blog

• A blog (web log) is a type of website or part of a website. • Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of

commentary, descriptions of events.• Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. • Most blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and

even message each other via widgets on the blogs and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites

• A wiki is a website that allows the creation and editing of any number of interlinked web pages

• Wikis are used to create collaborative works. • Examples

– Community websites – Corporate intranets– Knowledge management systems– Encyclopedias.

• An Internet forum, or message board, is an online discussion site where people can hold conversations in the form of posted messages.

• Often the post need to be approved by a moderator before it becomes visible.

• Content Sharing, Messaging, and Social Bookmaking sites. Allow users to share links to content.

• Twitter is a website which offers a social networking and microblogging service, enabling its users to send and read messages called tweets.

• Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the user's profile page.

• Tweets are publicly visible by default• Users subscribe to other users' tweets – this is

known as following and subscribers are known as followers or tweeps (Twitter + peeps).

see who you follow.

• It is mainly used for professional networking Connecting with old class mates, business associates and industry groups.

• It is the Rotary club, the Association group, the Professional group on the internet.

• Worlds biggest video sharing site.• Great for posting videos online.• You can create a channel and post videos.• People can watch your videos and

comment.• You can link your videos using Twitter,

• Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages,

• Including automatic notifications when they update their profile.

• Users may join common interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics.

• 50% of active users log on to Facebook in any given day.

• Average user has 130 friends.
