What is Serco Wellness?

Since 2015, the Serco Wellness program has been

delivering monthly wellness challenges for every

Serco employee to participate in under a platform

we call “Rise to the Challenge.” 2019 monthly

challenges will focus on Serco Wellness’s Pillars of

Health: Physical, Emotional/Social, Financial, and

Awareness.

New in 2019: Wellness Warriors

A Wellness Warrior is driven, passionate, and motivated to meet their

physical, emotional, social, or financial goals. They may also inspire their

peers to reach their own wellness goals, or actively encourage others to

participate in Serco Wellness challenges. To learn more about this exciting

some big differences between visits to your primary care provider (PCP), Urgent Care, and

the Emergency Room, such as cost and time spent waiting for care. Below are examples of

MAY 2019 Keep that mind sharp!

We like to keep our bodies active, but why don’t we invest the same amount of

care to our minds? According to the latest finding in neuroscience, your brain

reaches peak performance between ages 16-25, meaning cognitive function can

begin to decline by age 26! Doing some type of mental exercise, such as brain

teasers or word and number games, can help to boost overall brain activity.

The Serco Wellness team will send out four brain teasers during the

month; respond correctly to at least two of the four brain teasers to earn

Volunteering and helping others can help you

reduce stress, combat depression, keep you

mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of

purpose. Volunteering doesn’t have to

involve a long-term commitment or take a

huge amount of time out of your busy day.

Giving in even simple ways can help those in

need and improve your health and happiness.

JULY 2019

Preventive care is designed to prevent or delay the onset of illness and

disease. Examples of preventive care are physical examination, screenings,

laboratory tests, counseling, and immunization; and they can all help catch

health problems early enough to treat. In addition to getting preventive

check-ups with your doctor, a healthy lifestyle, exercise, diet and other

similar efforts can play a huge part in your preventive care.

You can earn a Wellness Ticket this month for

every preventative screening you received in

the past 6 months or will receive in the next 6

months. Preventative screenings are exclusive

to physical, dental and vision exams. Send an

email to [email protected] with your

name, employee ID number and preventive

screen you have received or will receive within

6 months.

AUGUST 2019 Regular physical activity can produce long term

health benefits. People of all ages, shapes,

sizes, and abilities benefit from being

physically activity. Being physically active can

help you increase your chances of living longer,

sleeping better at night, staying at or getting

to a healthy weight, and, most importantly,

feeling better and more confident about

yourself.

We invite you to join us on a step journey from

Herndon, VA HQ Office to our San Diego, California

office. That’s a total of 2,678 miles, or 5,655,936

steps. Are you up for the challenge?

For the months of August and September you have the

chance to earn up to 8 Wellness Tickets in total!

How? Track either your STEPS or MILES of exercise throughout

each month. Submit your steps/miles weekly and earn 1

Wellness ticket each week. You can submit your steps/miles

to [email protected] with your name and employee ID

number or make your submission through the online Google

Form. Each new week begins on Sunday and ends the

following Saturday.

Let’s get physical!

Physical activity and nutrition work together for better

health. Being active increases the amount of calories

burned. As people age their metabolism slows, so

maintaining energy balance requires moving more and

eating less. Here are some activities that can benefit

each of us:

Muscle strengthening activities such as push-ups or weight lifting

Bone-strengthening activities, like jumping, to promote bone growth and strength

Balance and stretching activities to enhance stability and flexibility, such as yoga

Our STEP/MILE journey across the states from Herndon, VA

HQ Office to San Diego, California continues! 2,678 miles,

or 5,655,936 steps, it’s not to late to join in the Challenge!
