What is JuryLink? JuryLink is a program offered to jurors assigned to the Downtown Los Angeles Courthouse. Jurors who wish to take a Metrolink train to Downtown Los Angeles receive free 4-Trip Tickets in exchange for the mileage reimbursement fee offered by the court. The current fee is 15 cents per mile, not a significant reimbursement for those traveling long distances. In addition to free travel, you’ll enjoy all of Metrolink’s other benefits. These include a comfortable, stress-free commute with free connecting transportation, conveniently located train stations close to your home, time on the train to read, work, relax, even nap, and no parking expenses. How do I sign up and use JuryLink service? During juror orientation, information will be distributed to jurors interested in using Metrolink. This includes a waiver sheet which authorizes your mileage fees to be waived in exchange for 4-Trip Tickets on Metrolink. The value of the 4-Trip Ticket exceeds the value of your reimbursement. Determine the Metrolink station you will J u ryLink be traveling from to get to your jury service court (see system map on back). The appropriate ticket will be issued by Juror Services staff. In the morning, drive to the station and park your vehicle at no cost, or use public transportation to get to the Metrolink station. To validate your ticket, find the metal validating machine and insert your ticket before you board the train each time. The machine will stamp the date and time on your ticket. You will be issued another ticket by Superior Court Juror Services staff if you use up your 4-Trip Ticket and still are on jury duty. You must turn in your “validated” ticket in order to receive your new ticket. How do I get from Union Station to the Courthouse? When your train arrives at Union Station, proceed down into the passenger tunnel below the platform. Look for signs that direct you to the Metro Red Line entrance. Go downstairs to the Red Line platform and wait for the next subway. Red Line trains come along every five minutes during the morning and evening rush hours. Once on the Red Line, have your Metrolink ticket available to show MTA Transit Police if requested. Your Metrolink ticket allows you to ride the Red Line to and from your Metrolink train. Get off the Red Line at “Civic Center,” the first stop after Union Station. If you are assigned to the Criminal Courts, take the Temple Street exit from the Red Line station. The escalator or stairs will take you to the street level (Hill Street). Cross the “Court of Flags” to Broadway. Cross Broadway and turn left to the Criminal Courts building at the corner of Broadway and Temple (210 W. Temple Street). If you are assigned to the County Courthouse, take the Temple Street exit from the Red Line station. Take the escalator or stairs to the street level. Turn left and walk to 1st Street. Cross Hill Street and proceed to the courthouse at 1st and Hill (111 N. Hill Street). Jurors with disabilities will find an elevator at the Temple Street exit. Exit the elevator at the Metro Red Line Temple Street 1st Street Grand Avenue Hill Street Broadway Spring Street Olive St County Courthouse Court of Flags Criminal Court Westlake/MacArthur Park 7th Street/Metro Center Pershing Square Civic Center Union Station Metrolink Terminal street level and follow the Criminal Courts or County Courthouse directions. Where does Metrolink run? Metrolink provides train service between six counties: Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Ventura, Riverside and San Diego. The information in this brochure focuses only on Los Angeles County, since jurors eligible for JuryLink reside within the County. Included with this brochure is the latest timetable for Metrolink service. If you have questions about Metrolink or connecting transit, call 800-371-LINK or visit www.metrolinktrains.com. Validate your 4-Trip Ticket. The ticket you will receive is good for four one-way rides or two round- trips. This ticket must be “validated” for each ride before you board your Metrolink train. A metal validator, located at each station, will stamp the date and time on your ticket. You cannot validate tickets on the train. Since the conductor may inspect tickets on the train, you may be subject to a citation and fine if you forget to validate your ticket.
