A special kind of analytic reading that involves:

Bringing the text and the reader “closer together”

Reading for more than just the plot

Looking for more than one layer of meaning

Recognizing emotional overtones that word choice, images, details create in the text

(ex. starving vs. famished vs. hungry)

Close Reading: Defined

Connect textual information + prior experiences = expand schema.

Build necessary habits + engage with difficult text = persistence and stamina.

Create meaning + interact with text = deeper understanding of what they are reading

This can be done by reading “more closely”
