What have you learnt from

audience feedback?

Page 2: What have you learnt from audience feedback

This was an extremely positive feedback answer as we can see

that most people thought that our video represents the lyrics of

the song very well. This is a good achievement as this is one of

the main things we aimed to represent when planning our video

from the outset. It is positive to know that our video was well

received by the audience even though it shies away from the

typical dance video which rely heavily on the party image which

is ultimately meaningless.

This again is another positive response considering we didn’t really

follow that many typical forms and conventions of the dance genre

such as, dance routines and locations. However, to further improve

our future projects we would have to consider put more emphasis

on certain aspects of mise en scene to establish the dance genre in

our products.

From this feedback we seem to have achieved what we set out to

do in terms of representing the dance genre through costume.

This proves that our audience research paid off as the

reoccurring urban clothing was eventually incorporated into our

own music video. We can only hope to improve on this in future

projects, perhaps by incorporating more of the conventional

brands that often appear in music videos. In doing this we would

present these stereotypes as inspirational figures would sway

peoples fashion choices.

We were aware that this may achieve mixed reactions, however I

am pleasantly surprised by the response. The reactions have

been positive even though we have moved away from the

conventional locations that are usually featured in dance videos.

Using the raw and urban locations enabled us to emphasise the

meaning and lyrics of the song rather than promoting a video

that has sex appeal rather than an actual narrative.

However, this feedback could suggest that the audience may

prefer to stick with the usual genre conventions they know and

like. Perhaps incorporating locations such as clubs would entice

more dance fans in future projects.

This is great feedback, however I feel it is slightly at odds with the

previous question. Despite this I am happy that the risk of not

using conventional locations has paid off, suggesting that dance

fans may welcome a change in the existing conventions. The

refreshing change shows the appreciation for locations with a

meaning and emotive attachment rather than the usual run of the

mill night club locations.

A positive response despite the stigma that is attached to the

dance genre. It is pleasing to see the audience engaged with the

feeling and emotions that were being conveyed through the video

as this was another major element we wanted to enhance.

However, in order to achieve this we have had to neglect other

forms and conventions of the genre. However, it was all in order

to put our own twist on a ridged genre.

It is clear from this response that it may not have been

a good choice to use a male character to mime female

vocals, but due to circumstances with casting this was

unavoidable. If we were to attempt this project again

we would defiantly consider changing the performer to

a female.
