What Have You Learned From Your Audience Feedback?

Do people find our media products informative?

• We showed our documentary individually to 20 different people. We asked them about all aspects of our documentary. We first asked them how informative our documentary was, did they understand it, did they know what they were looking forward to; generally what the documentary was about. Eighteen people fully understood our documentary. They said they knew the band was practising and looking forward to the big gig in December, and how hard it is for the band to get to where they are now. They understood that people have stepped in to help them get gigs, and achieve the sound they have now. They understood that the producer had asked to produce them because of their talent, which they said shows that the band actually do have potential to make it big in the industry.

• We also asked this about our radio trailer, and poster. They said that the poster really made sense, that they are walking down a road which relates to the, “road to stardom” heading. The image and text on the poster also really stands out, and isn’t confusing to read.

I have learnt that you have to explain everything done to very detail within a documentary for everyone to clock on, you have to explain your explanations. We did quite well though because people did gather enough information from every interview and understood what the subject matter was.

How entertaining is Our documentary?

• We asked the same people how entertaining the documentary was for them. We found out that a large amount of the people we asked enjoyed our documentary. What I have learned by this, is that people really enjoy the way we edited and pieced together our documentary. Our target audience obviously really like fast paced editing and the orginial codes and conventions of documentaries. In saying that, they obviously like how we challenged the codes and conventions by not adding a voice over. This kept the documentary flowing and people obviously enjoyed a little bit of change. The same goes for the poster, we stuck to the original codes and conventions. It was easy to read, and the image was really professional. I think some people may not of enjoyed the poster as much as because it didn’t reflect anything musical from looking at it straight off. It could have been any form of struggle on “the road to stardom”.

• The radio trailer was enjoyed by a lot of people, but enjoyed by the least amount of people. I think this is due to the radio one maybe being rushed, and because we didnt do enough research into radio trailer. We just tied together what we thought would work best, and obviously didn’t as well as we would have hoped.

Was The Documentary of a professional level?

• A wide amount of people thought our documentary was of professional level. I was really pleased with this outcome. I think this is because the great quality of technology we had to offer. We had excellent 1080p HD video cameras that had a professional quality, as well as sound quality. Photoshop and Premier are also two very professional software, and worked exceptionally well in the editing and developing of our media products. I think this is the main reason our documentary worked so well. As well as all of us being interested in music and media, we were able to put every idea we had together.

Was the documentary Eye catching?

• Another positive result came back when we asked the public if our documentary was eye catching. I think this because of how we edited the documentary. The fast pace montage that built up in speed really drew you into the documentary because there was no narration, no text, and no sound other than a heart beat. This really brought up the anticipation and hooked people in. Then as soon as the band came on, people we already kind of fascinated, and then knew instantly what/who the band were. The beginning of the documentary was slightly poetic, so I feel like you need an out of the ordinary opening to catch peoples attention.

Did it stick to the conventions of a documentary?

• Our feedback showed us how people actually felt about our documentary, that they knew how to annalyse and understand what is in a documentary. People understood how using rule of thirds worked well, and that the interviews were really professional and weren’t messy. The reasons for the number of ‘’no’s’’ is because of the lack in narration. People wanted to be told whats happening, not to figure it out for themselves. But saying that, i do not regret having no voice over. This is a convetion we wanted to break, and I still think it worked exceptionally well. The majority of people really enjoyed and thought our documentary was professional all the way through. So i have learned that it does take a lot of thinking, and sometime changing of an original documentary format to grab peoples attention to get the best results.
