How effective has your created brand and media product been in appealing to your

target audience? PRE-PRODUCTION

• Before I created my music video with the song Monster, I needed to conduct a survey to find out what my targeted audience, teenagers and youth, looked for in a music video, and what their opinions were of the ideas that I had

• I asked people what they thought of the song Monster. The average rating was 6.67/10 for what people thought of Monster. I had either wanted to use this song or the song My Generation by The Who. In the end I decided to go with this one as my political idea went well with it, however I did need to find out the public's opinion of it first. Most people liked it, with the majority of people giving it either a 7 or an 8 and so I chose to go ahead with using it

• I also asked people what they thought about a political theme in a music video. This answer was practically split 50/50, with the vote for not seeing politicians in a video winning by 1 more point. Despite the fact that people had said they did not want to see politicians in a music video I decided I would continue to map out my plan for a political music video. One more point for the 'no' vote was not enough to make me change my mind, and in any event I had this concept in my mind for a long time

I also conducted five video interviews asking questions relating to music videos and songs as a whole. The purpose of that research was to find out what the personal preferences of people my own age were regarding music. I learned that the majority did like the song Monster, however for the most part were not interested in politics. Despite this, most of the participants did want to see a video where politicians were parodied. In addition to this, the video and survey answers both revealed that the ideal time for a song lay between three and four minutes. I used this information to my advantage, as I then confirmed the song Monster which is three minutes and forty-two seconds long.

Overall, I found out that many people in my target audience are not interested in politics. While they do like the song Monster, further research showed that the favourite genre of my target audience lies in pop and classic rock. This surprised me, as The Automatic are indie and do not resemble either of those genres.

In conclusion, I found my preproduction audience research confirmed my intention of using the song Monster. A lot of people also stated that they preferred three to four minute songs which reinforced my decision.

• There are fifteen responses from the screening of my music video, and they range in responses, from an overall 1 to a 10. The vast majority felt that the video was a good amount of time, not running too short or for too long. While a lot of people ticked the box saying the location was good for a football match, many also thought that the location lacked atmosphere. This is because the entire music video (except for a tiny snippet at the start) is shot in the football courts

• The general consensus was that the song did go well with the music video, and the average rating overall for my music video was a 7.1

• A lot of people commented that the video was unique and that the masks were interesting. This backed up the answers of those saying that it would be fun to see politicians in a music video

How would you improve your pieces if you were asked to revise them?

• ‘While a lot of people ticked the box saying the location was good for a football match, many also thought that the location lacked atmosphere’ - I could have improved on this by possibly having my actors run around on the grassy plain  or running into shot over a hill nearby which I would have shown during the chorus of the song, "what's that coming over the hill? Is it a monster?“

• I would possibly have better camera cuts and length of shots, as I felt that some scenes in the video dragged on for too long which can bore people. These shots include the POV scene of Bush, looking at the pumpkin-masked monster, the opening scene as Obama walks to the bus stop, and the ending scene where the two monsters get in a fight. All of these scenes could have been edited down which would have kept more in time to the beat of the fast-paced song

• I would also pay more attention to the costumes, and make an effort to match the ties of the politicians to the corresponding party
