Generally £3 is the maximum price girls are willing to pay - girls expect to pay BUT are savvy judges of VALUE and like offers.

Unfortunately no one solution fits all - talk to groups find the best fit. Be flexible and respond to changes in circumstances as they

happen. Resilience in surviving early weeks is important !

Working in partnership with intact groups is a useful starting point. Use word of mouth to extend reach - utilise social media.

FUN/FITNESS/FRIENDS - relaxed rules, modified fun activities, social interaction, lifestyle activities.

Women Only vital, image is friendly and accessible, opportunity to exercise with family members often mum, bring a mate schemes.

Ensure programme imagery represents a realistic spread of exercisers- girls want a clear view of what to expect.

Informal and fun feel - set achievable goals – let girls choose the activities/provide variety/use music. Create group goals and supportive activities. Reward achievement

‘You know all shapes and sizes, they come at first and they’re like [worried], don’t worry, look, we’re all here to have fun’. (Multi-sport)

Staying involved in sessions “Another thing that we’ve learnt and that we didn’t factor into the

project as much is what females respond to best. And it was decided that… a lot more investment has gone into rewards and

incentives, so T-shirts and trophies and competitions, giving them more of an emphasis on why they are doing the activity, or

it’s leading up to a competition, or if they’ve done x number of sessions over a period of time then they get a t-shirt or a bag or

something that is a reward for their commitment”

Do

Girls want to take leadership roles but are wary of volunteering

“We would suggest that UsGirls develop a brand of volunteering suited to the UsGirls population – young women who may not have a sporting identity and may not view themselves as having the capacity to lead sporting activities…A version of volunteering that provided a bit less initial commitment might serve as a transition or ‘lead in’ to more substantial commitment in the future …. So maybe helping set up 3 sessions and plan two sessions could lead to a ‘UsGirls volunteer’ designation/t-shirt “
