The story of a man who, over the course of three decades and despite having an IQ of only 75, leads a most extraordinary life.
The movie Forrest Gump is the life story of a good-natured simpleton named Forrest Gump living in the 50’s to 80’s in the United States. Forrest Gump tells his story to the people at a bus stop, from which, we learn that Forrest Gump grew up in Greenbow, Alabama, where his mother runs a boarding house. Although Forrest is a little ‘slow’, his limited understanding of the world around him gives Forrest a uniquely positive perspective on life. It leads views through an accidental travelogue of American social history: Vietnam, desegregation, Watergate and many more presented from the perspective of Forrest’s lovably slow witted character as he finds himself embroiled in situations he can’t quite comprehend. His kind and loving heart knows what his limited IQ cannot. Armed with only his nature verses the world’s cruelty, he never allows his moral compass to waver. Through three turbulent decades of his life, Forrest rides a tide of events that whisks him from physical disability to football stardom, from Vietnam hero to shrimp tycoon, from White House honors to the arms of his one true love, Jenny. Forrest’s remarkably successful and adventurous life crosses paths with most of the important historical figures of the American post-war era and his life is like an American history fairy tale.
