Methods we used

For audience feedback we decided to upload our video onto a very well known website YouTube. YouTube has a like and comment icon so it was particularly useful.

We also posted our video on social network sites. We used facebook and Twitter, here you can also post videos where people can like and comment making it also very useful as we could easily get comments and likes on our video.

Another technique we used to get feedback was by showing it to family and friends.

YouTube

YouTube is easily accessible website and people found it very to easy to view our video

However a problem we did come across was that the leave a comment the person must have a YouTube account, this was a problem as many people do not have accounts and therefore could not give us feedback on our trailer, this meant that we could only get limited feedback on our trailer from YouTube.

Facebook and Twitter

Facebook and Twitter are the two most popular social networking sites on the internet.

We had high prospects when putting our trailer onto Facebook and Twitter as between us we have hundreds of Facebook friends and Twitter followers.

The trailer was very easy to insert onto both of the social networking sites.

We received a much larger amount of audience feedback from these sites.

The very useful aspect of using our Facebook and Twitter accounts is that our friends are of the same age which is 17-18 years old which was conveniently part of our target audience.

Friends and family feedback

One of the easiest ways that we were able to get feedback from was from friends and family.

We were also able to get a far wider range of ages to view our trailer which we were not quite able to do on YouTube and on social networks.

We could also gain more detailed and qualitative information

The people that we asked were people such as our parents and people who we go to college with.

Friends and Family feedback

Euan’s Dad- I think the trailer is quite good, I think that the start of the trailer is better than the end of the trailer because it flows better but all round it does seem to be good

Callum Carmichael- The trailer is descent, you can see how they have tried to apply the common conventions of a trailer.

Emma’s Mum- I think the use of sound is quite effective and the editing is done in time with the background scores. I like the documentary feeling which is created making the trailer scary to watch.

Audience feedback

We also had to get feedback on the two other task that we were given, a magazine front cover and Poster.

For this we did not use YouTube however we did replace it with a specialised social networking site called Instagram, where people can only share pictures

We also again used Facebook, Twitter, friends and family.

Page 10: What did you learn from audience feed back

Instagram

Is a social networking site where you can post pictures. Those pictures can be liked and commented on.

We thought we could take advantage with this with our magazine front cover central image and our poster image. We decided that we would let our friends on Instagram decide what photos they thought were best for the magazine front cover and poster. The Pictures with the most likes would be used in our posters and magazine front cover

All the pictures had already been edited but we thought we would let our friends on Instagram decide which edited image was best, this was quite good our friends on Instagram were part of our target audience.

Instagram vote

Here are the images our Instagram friends chose: 6 likes 7 likes

Facebook and Twitter

After letting our Instagram friends decide what image we were to use, we took those images and made them into our poster and magazine front cover.

We then posted these onto to our facebook and twitter pages which was just as easy as inserting our Film trailer.

We were now able to get some quantative and qualitative information on our finished products

Again the people who are commenting and liking are in a our target audience.

Family and Friends

To get some more qualitative feedback on our poster we then also again decided to show our college friends and our family.

Again it was good here to see what people of different age groups thought about the poster and magazine front cover.

Family and friends

Family and friends comments about poster:Euan’s Mum: I think the poster is really good,

If I were going past it on my way to work on the underground it would definitely attract my attention.

Emma’s Sister: I really like the overlaying of the two images, It gives a very creepy effect and makes you wonder what the connection is between the background picture and the overlaying image of the creepy eyes.

Family and friends

Family and friends comments on the magazine front cover:

Robyn Garcia: I think that the magazine front cover is quite good, it is obvious they have put in thought about what are the common characteristic of a magazine front cover and put that into practise.

Euan’s Sister: I think Euan looks really scary on the front of the magazine front cover, I like what they did with his eyes and the little images at the bottom of the front cover.

Qualitative and Quantative

Quantative: Deals with numbers. Data which can be measured. - Length, height, area, volume, weight, speed, time,

temperature, humidity, sound levels, cost, members, ages, etc.- Qualitative: Deals with descriptions. Data can be observed but

not measured. Colours, textures, smells, tastes, appearance, beauty, etc.

- The real advantage of using social networking site is that it has these comment and like icons, which meant they were really good for getting quantitative and qualitative data

- Asking family and friends to make a statement was really useful as we could get really good qualitative data from different age groups. Although we wanted to mainly find out qualitative data from people in our teenage target audience it was still good to get feedback from the older adult audience.

Page 19: What did you learn from audience feed back

Qualitative

We managed to get a lot of qualitative information, which is good as we were trying to get as much of this data as possible. This is because we actually thought this was the most helpful feedback we could get.

We got qualitative data from comments on YouTube and facebook also tweets on Twitter.

The best qualitative data we got was from family and friends as they went into more detail than those people on YouTube and Social networking sites.

Page 20: What did you learn from audience feed back

Quantitative

Although we did not think this sort of data as useful, it was helpful as in it gave us a measureable figure of what the response to our trailer, magazine front cover and poster really was.

We got likes from all of the social networking sites, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

On all of these websites there is an icon to show whether you approve of what you see, however only on YouTube is there an Icon to show if you disapprove. I think the problem with this is that we were not able to get a real insight whether a lot of people disliked what we created

Approval = 28 Disapproval= 2From this information we can see that the majority of people

did like and approve the three tasks that we completed.

Page 21: What did you learn from audience feed back

Evaluation of audience feedback

I think overall our audience feedback was very successful as we were able to gain a lot of information in creating all of the tasks we were set.

We were also able to see what people particularly our chosen target audience thought of our trailer, magazine front cover and poster. In this the internet very much came in handy as the majority of our information was found using Social media.

We thought that the qualititative data that we received was actually the most useful as it was far more detailed and therefore it was easier for us to make changes using that data.

However the qualitative data was useful as it gave us a number of how many liked or disliked what we created. Although the problem we found is that only YouTube give a user a chance to dislike what they see none of the other websites we used give that feature so it actually hard for us to scope how many people actually disliked either our trailer, magazine front cover or poster.

YouTube is also far less personal as you are able to comment and like on any video on YouTube and therefore a persons opinion is likely to be more honest, so we could say that the information we got from YouTube is perhaps more valid than on any of the other website we used, we did take this into consideration. On Facebook, Twitter and Instagram you are generally good friends with whoever comments or likes your post, these people may withheld what they honestly think so that not offend there friend. We also took this into account.

The opinions of family and friends was also very useful, as we were able to get more of a complex review of what they thought of what we created . However again we did take into account that those friends and family could also of withheld information so that to not to offend us, although any criticism we would of got we would of taken positively and tried to change what we had created for the better.
