I.C. Leonori is located in the south of Rome, in the middle between downtown and the sea.

In this area there are many interesting site to visit or entertaining activities to do especially in summertime.

The archeological site of Ostia Antica

Is a facinating green place famous for its ancient buildings, magnificent frescoes and mosaics. Inside there’s a museum that preserves ancient roman statues and

evidences. You can see ruins of houses, taverns, inns and public baths where patricians where used to have bath

together. Many schools organize

guided tours.

The theatreThe theatre is one of the main buildingsof the site: it can contains 4.000 people and nowadays are still acting theatrical performances and music concerts.

The synagogue

The synagogue is the oldest one in Europe, but what remains is just the high columns

of tabernacle.

THE OSTIA ANTICA VILLAGE

The famous village is situated 5 km. from the coast. At the beginning it has been realized to give protection to workers of salt mines operating in this area.

In XV century Pope Julius II decided to build the Castle, rebuild the ancient church and the fortified walls. The village remained the same until the 1587 when Tiber river overflew and destroyed part of the buildings. After the castle became shelter for travellers, farmers or used as stable. Now is an interesting place to visit.

Madonnetta Park

The Park of Madonnetta is an important hangout for teenagers. It

has been inhaugurated in 2004. Is an extended area where you can find a

sports centre for many activities, free games for children, a restaurant and a

kindergarten school .

The beach in OstiaIn summertime the coast is very crouded. Also if the sea is not trasparent, the beach and the bathing establishments are a great attactions for people of all age: you can find swimming pool, football and beachvolley field and every thing you want to drink and eat.

One of the most ancient establishment is the «Kursal» with its many diving board.

In the night the bathing establishments change themselves into discotheque.

Castel Porziano Natural Reserve

The Castel Porziano Estate is also called “President Estate” because is protected by the President of the Italian Republic. Is a very extended and green area.

In the past it belongs to aristocratic families used for hunting; it became property of the State after the Second World War.

In 1977 hunting has been prohibited and in the 1999 was changed into Natural Reserve. In 1997 a serious blaze destroyed 20 hectars.

In this reserve prevails silence, grows vegetation and live many species of animals.

Castel Porziano

For students of all age is possible to visit the Natural Reserve because is very interesting. We can observe animals and plants and the supervising system on migration birds that stop here during their trip or traps for animals like wild boar.

When our school went to visit the Natural Reserve last year we could see how birds are captured, measured and classified.
