What Sleep can do for you
Why do we need sleep??
Every living thing needs sleep to do many different activities throughout the day.
Going to school, taking care of your pets, playing with friends, going to sports practice or other activities can all be affected by how much sleep you get each night.
When you go to sleep your body is recharging so that you will be able to stay more alert and energized throughout the day
What can happen if I don’t get enough sleep??You may feel tired or crankyFollowing directions will start becoming more
difficultYou might start having arguments with a
friend or family member over little problemsYou might not have enough energy to play
sports or interact with friendsSchool work will become harder to
accomplish.Not getting enough sleep can cause people to
get sick more often and even affect your growing.
How do I know if I am getting enough sleep???
Children between the ages of five and twelve get about 9 hours of sleep every night. Child doctors will tell you that most children need ten to eleven hours of sleep each night. If you are getting enough sleep you will notice an increase in your bodies energy.
Stages of sleepStage 1- Your brain gives the signal to your
muscles to relax and tells your heart to start beating slower.
Stage 2- Your body starts going into light sleep in which you can still be woken up easily by noises or if something physically touches you.
Stage 3- Your body goes into a deeper sleep. It's much harder to be awakened when you're in this stage.
Stage 4- Your body goes into its deepest stage of sleep in which it's very hard to wake up from this stage of sleep.

Your brain needs sleepSleep is very important for your brain. All
though you may not know it, when your sleeping your brain is hard at work sorting out the information from your day. While you sleep your brain is restoring important body chemicals and sorting though problums.
Tips for SleepTry to go to bed at the same time every nightDon’t eat foods or drink anything that might
contain caffeine because that will keep your body awake.
Don't exercise just before going to bed.
