Capitalization and Punctuation of Titles
Shorter Works- Poems, chapters, short stories, articles, song titles
• The first and all important works are capitalized– Ex: “My Friend has a Dog”
• Use quotation marks. A period or a comma after the title is placed in the quotation marks. Any other punctuation following the title is placed outside the quotation marks.
- Ex: I read the story, “My Friend has a Dog.”
-Ex: The story, “My Friend has a Dog,” is about Larry’s new dog.
Longer Works- books, magazines, movies, plays, TV shows, albums
• The first and all Important words are capitalized– Ex: I like to read Homeward the
Arrow Flight• Use italics or underline
- Ex: I like to read Homeward the Arrow Flight- Ex I like to read Homeward the Arrow Flight
