What are the reasons why the abundance of English speaking practice allows the oral
expression students at the pedagogical university to speak English outside the classroom on
Sunday’s morning Group?
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK.
1. Problematic Situation
The English language Acquisition has become critical in our XXI Century, El Salvador is not far
way of this trend, the growing of transnationals companies investing in El Salvador requires
specific skills and competencies, The Information Technology Department is now considered as
a high profile position in any enterprise , this matter obliges the companies to hire employees
willing to communicate with Proficiency Academic English language skills ,then, It is true to
state that Workforce is changing so skills required are changing too and the first front page of
the skills needed is The English Language.
We are all well documented about the Economic Crisis that United States is still facing and
struggling with it since 2000, as a result , El Salvador has suffered an explosion of companies
which are hired by Transnational companies called “Vendors “ that are urgently need of this
new staff who speaks English well , this influence has another issues that results in the necessity
of teachers who can teach English for specific subjects , for example Call Center , Business ,
Sales , Customer Service and Information Technologies .
2. Justification
As of now , there is no one who can deny the importance of English Language Acquisition , El
Salvador is not an exception , and it has basically almost all the Universities preparing students
who can use the language in all its different subjects .
Pedagogical University has been very responsible following the standards to teach English with
high standards, of course, as the education works as scaffolding, the necessity of hard work
with students who enter in the first semester is absolutely necessary.
As an effort to provide great fundaments for English language learners, the Pedagogical
University has created the 64 Course that pretends improve English Language acquisition for
those students who have presented some weakness points in the Language , the main objective
of this course is get them ready to go with the language in parallel with the MINED curricula set
Oral Expression Subject.
The lack of real communication outside the Classroom obliges to research an special group of
Sunday Morning students during semester 01-2013 , all those students are taking Oral
Expression as well with Licenciado Jose Luis Deras , but something special has been occurring
with all of them ; they have started to practice English outside the classroom .
As a result , concerns to Pedagogical University make a formal research with those students to
determine what are the reasons why the abundance of English practice allow them speak
outside the classroom.
3. System of Objectives
3.1 General.
To find the reasons Why the abundance of English Speaking let the Oral Expression Students on
Sunday morning at pedagogical University to speak English outside the classroom.
3.2 Specific Objectives
To obtain a formal written document about the good practices that teacher is making.
To pass students a survey about what are the reasons students feel motivated to speak
English outside the classroom.
To find out the right assessment for them.
To analize their grades.
To give suggestion for better improvement.
4. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK TO FIND OUT THE REASONS WHY THE ABUNDANCE OF ENGLISH
SPEAKING PRACTICE ALLOW THE ORAL EXPRESION SUNDAY MONDAY STUDENTS AT
PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY TO SPEAK ENGLIS OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM.
The English Language learning as a necessity to communicate specially in our Globalized world
is undeniable today, we all need it basically.
Recently, Jack C.Richards stated in his document Communicative Language Teaching Today “
Our understanding of the processes of second language learning has changed considerably in
the last 30 years and CLT is partly a response to these changes in understanding. Earlier views
of language learning focused primarily on the mastery of grammatical competence. Language
learning was viewed as a process of mechanical habit formation”.
4.1 Oral Expression.
About Oral Expression and CLT ,we usually trend to make a blend or state a close relation
between these two subjects , this is partially correct , but oral expression has its specifics
matters to consider , even if in general terms we can refer to the merely description of
Communication .
Oral Expression implies the next matters:
Sintax - Word Order
Grammar – The rules of the language
Morphology – the smallest units of meaning in words
Pragmatics/Social – Making language choice based on social Contexts.
Semantic – Knowledge of vocabulary.
Phonology – Understanding the sound rules of our language and use of sounds to
encode the meaning of language.
Metalinguistic – The conscious considerations of language trough use of language : Meta
Skills is crucial to reading.
