Reflections on the Lake

This tote is made with solid green and variegated 4-color space-dyed reeds. The lower section of the

twill design is woven with the space-dyed colors to

seemingly reflect the upper design in the shimmering water below. The handles are four-strand braided

Christmas Stamps

The Christmas Stamps are small twill mats with the designs of an ornament and a Christmas Tree.

They are made of 1/8” ash. The perimeter is twined with waxed linen and cut

with a pinking rotary cutter to look like the old

postage stamps. They make nice ornaments at

Christmas or nice embellishments to a gift.

Splash of Bling Wine

Tray

napkins. cookies, crackers, rolls , or whatever snack you would like to share! Super easy and fast to weave. Great gift idea! You use round reed for spokes, add some triple twine and flat reed, and then finish with a braid that has a little different

twist to it.

Farmhouse Table Basket

Students will alternate narrow and wide spokes to set up an open weave base, then weave start/stop rows up the sides for this long,

squatty basket. Brown leather handles will be added to the ends while rimming. A technique to upset all of the spokes the first time around will be

taught and controlling the shape of such a long, short basket will be emphasized.

Flying Geese Basket

Weave a unique open weave base, start/stop rows,

triple twining, and twill weave using 3 different

colors of dyed reed. All the rows are start/stop, so

figuring out how to begin each row, along with

shaping, will be the focus of this class. This rectangular

shaped basket is a great size for so many uses. The colors will be navy blue,

green and burgundy.

Nantucket Salad Bowl

An oak base will be glued to the bottom of a wooden salad bowl which will be part of the basket. The staves will be cane and

woven in a twill pattern. A reed rim will be nailed on then lashed with cane to

Color Scheme

Students will weave with 140-pound watercolor paper to create a large ‘cathead’ basket. The

paper will be painted and pre-cut by the instructor with a variety of colors to choose from. The shaping

of the basket will be emphasized.

Paper Reindeer

The original pattern was published in Basket

Express, Winter 1990. Billy Malone made

revising it in 1999, and Wendy G. Jensen also

made changes in 2007 for Reindeer woven in ash. I

have made revisions in 2012. The Reindeer are

constructed out of painted watercolor paper to

resemble leather. Students will weave two Reindeer and attach a gold thread for harness. A demo will be given on how to paint

your own watercolor paper.

Willow Backpack

This beautiful and functional backpack basket is made with

unpeeled willow. It starts with the weaving of an oval base, followed by staking up and bottom waling. The siding is

composed of sets of French randing. finished with top

wailing and a large rod border. A back roped handle completes the

basket. The fee includes a webbing strap system. Custom leather strap

system with solid brass hardware for an additional $25.

Philly

Philly is all about round reed, starts on an ash base with holes drilled for the

spokes. Several round reed techniques are used to

create this basket continuing chase, triple

twining, 4-rod wale, rolled border and the addition of

the Philodendron leaf sheath. The sheath can be omitted if desired. Several colors will be available and

a variety of buttons for embellishment.

Snowflake Tray

The Snowflake Tray is made with two extra stakes in one direction that allows for the

stepping up of the design into the sides of the tray. The twill design produces snowflakes in both positive and negative colors of ice blue. Students may not finish rim in class.

However, instruction to complete the trays will be

thoroughly discussed.

Potbelly Piggyback

This #2 in the Piggyback handle series! You will start out with a round wood base, spokes glued in and weaver-

ready. Our main goal will be shaping the potbelly. I have a couple of tricks up

my sleeve that I will pass on to help you achieve this

shape. The basket will be finished by adding the

unique piggyback handle and the “whirls” around the

top.

Deadwood

Deadwood is woven over a class mold with both dyed and natural stakes. Many

techniques are used---Continuous twill weaving,

4-rod wale, 5-rod wale, and double lashing with

waxed linen in a “V” design. Molds can be

Braided Willilamsburg

Intermediate

Students will weave a filled base incorporating a

Williamsburg D handle, weave start/stop rows, triple

twine with a step-up, and learn the braid weave

accenting the sides. They will also increase the height on

the sides and learn to weave a rewoven braided rim with another simple braid on the inside of the rim. Shaping will be emphasized so the basket flares out to match

the handle shape.

Nantucket Swirls of Fun

Students will learn how to set up a Nantucket basket and how to incorporate a twill in pattern into the

basket. Staves and weavers will be cane. A

cheater rim will finish off the basket topped with a

lid. The base, cheater rim and lid will be Cherry and

will be pre-finished. Basket will be woven over a class plastic mold. A tool

kit will be provided for class use.

Butterflies to Flowers

Students will learn techniques and shaping

while weaving their small paper ‘cathead’. The

instructor will provide a variety of painted and

pre-cut paper. After the basket is woven, paper

will be applied in an easy decoupage method to create a hand painted look. There are many

patterns to choose from. A tool kit will be provided.

Colorful Zig-Zag

This lovely willow basket is made with a split stick

base and then staked up in the normal manner with

three rod waling. The unique feature of this

basket is the siding with Zig Zag weave! Zig Zag is a type of French randing. All the weavers are woven in one direction and then

are all woven in the reverse direction

throughout the siding. Very colorful Procion

dyed willow will be offered for two color Zig Zag weave which makes

this basket even more appealing. Top waling, a

rod border and two roped handles complete this

basket.

Regalia

Round reed, round reed, love that round reed! This basket

starts on an ash base with holes drilled for the spokes. To create this stylish basket

several round reed techniques are used:

continuous chase, triple twining, and 4-rod wale,

sloped on each end with a rolled border. The leather

handle is stitched on with two buttons on each end using

waxed linen thread. Shaping will be emphasized. Color

choices available.

Basket

The Christmas Tree Bread Basket has a tree woven

into the base. The sides are a candy cane swirl of a 2/2 twill chase weave. This is a

cathead basket that the only adds to its charm.

Split Stitch

You will be working on your triple twine, shaping and back-weaving to fill in the

sections between the wooden spools. Spokes will be glued in and weaver-ready. Also, a unique, split leather handle

with attached flower medallions will finish your basket. The wood base and leather handle are made by

Amish gentlemen. There will be spools already painted for you to use. You will also have the option of adding buttons

around the rim for an additional cost.

Diamonds in Smoke

Students will insert smoked reed spokes into a rectangular slotted wood

base, weave start/stop rows, twine, triple twine, add weaver overlays, add

Shaping will be emphasized. Weaving will be done with smoked and

natural reed.

Large Nantucket Sand Pail

Students will learn how to twill weave. Stakes and weavers will be cane. A

cheater rim will be used to finish the basket and the handle will be attached

with bone knobs. Basket is woven over a plastic mold. Base, cheater rim, handle

and shovel are oak. All wood parts will be pre-finished. Basket will be pre-started to insure a

finished basket. Please let me know if you are left

handed. A tool kit will be provided for class use.

Small Nantucket Bell

Sciathog

This classic Irish Potato straining frame basket

starts with a prepared and dried hoop. Students will place the first set of ribs

using ‘God’s Eye’ weaving. Randing weave continues from each side

as the other sets of ribs are progressively inserted. A

range of naturally processed and colored

willows allow students to experiment with design

variations.

Carousel

Starting with slotted bases students will insert flat reed

spokes and weave a twill pattern of 1-2 using 2 pieces of round reed as one weaver. Maple strips will be used to

create the arrow embellishment. Stacked rim

and lashed with wax line thread. Lots of color choices

of dyed maple will be available for the students to

select from and they will decide on different

combinations. Possibilities will be discussed in class.
