IBM WebSphere Portal and Web Content Content Manager V8 have further extended the exceptional web experience capabilities for the next generation of the Portal. In this Lab, we will take you through a User Inteface tour of V8.

You will explore out-of-box features demonstrating how simple it is to use the features and capabilities; we will explore the following:

    (1) Explore the default CTC Demo site

    (2) Tagging and Rating, and Tag Center

    (3) Create a new project

    (4) Change a Page and Content

    (5) View the Project

    (6) Publishing the Project

    1.1 Discover CTC Demo site

In this section, you will learn how to use the IBM Web Content Manager CTC Demo site for WebSphere Portal to get a quick idea of what CTC may bring to your company. In this site, you will learn to navigate through the site, change existing content and add new content. Once you have installed CTC on your machine, you will find the CTC Demo site on the top of your navigation.

Page 26 Lab 1 Web Experience V8 User Tour

  • IBM Software

__47. Your project is now published and all the changes are available on the published view.

In this lab you have discovered the CTC Demo site, learned how to tag and rate pages, portlets and content and created a new project to contain changes to your site including multiple changes to a page and content as well as adding a new page with content. All the changes were then approved individually and then the entire project was published to the site.

If you examine the project in edit mode you will also see additional options for publishing the project approvals and even custom actions.

    .

Often changes to a website will be made by several users including business users, administrators and designers. Once all the changes have been made, previewed and approved a final approval for all the changes can be made so that all the changes are published to the production site at once.

Manage pages uses a WCM project as the container for all the changes. A simple dashboard shows what items are in the project as well as allows users to view the site as if all project items have been published.

The editor tools are found everywhere where the content is managed in the pages and you have the correct rights.

You have successfully completed this lab !

Appendix A Backing out changes from a project.

Projects that have been published are no longer available in the Preview mode for the site. You can access them in the WCM authoring environment.

The project will record the items that were new to the site as well as the version number of any updated items. The new items would need to be deleted and the updated items would need to be reverted as a draft and then republished from an older version.
