Dear Parents and Carers

On the 2nd and 3rd of May, Her Majesty’s Inspector Mr Martin Cragg conducted a subject inspection of our English department. This was conducted against the new and more rigorous, Ofsted inspection framework that has been in place since September. I am delighted to tell you our English department has been rated as “Good” and that we are the first secondary school in Northamptonshire to receive a good rating for an inspection under the new framework. The report is available to read on the Ofsted website (www.ofsted.gov.uk).

As always, the verbal feedback from inspectors is much more detailed than the final written report. So what did he say?

He said that the leadership and management of English is very good, recognising the total transformation we have achieved. He praised the work of Mrs Satyanadhan, Miss Allen, Miss Evans and the whole of the English team. He saw their clear vision for English and liked it. He saw their high expectations and praised them. He saw how their careful planning and strategy helps all of our students to succeed in each English lesson and he really rated it.

He said that the range of work that is tackled in English was good and of a high quality. He was impressed with the catch up lessons and support that has been put in place where needed.

He agreed with us, that achievement is good. He recognised the progress that all students are making. He saw how results have improved and will continue to improve and was impressed with this trajectory.

He enjoyed the lessons that he observed, including some with Mrs Boddy and myself, they were good and our judgement of teaching and learning was entirely accurate.

Overall, he said that English is good, but of course he gave us guidance as to how we can improve things further still.

Martin Cragg wanted me to thank the students and staff that he met and talked to during his inspection.

I would like to say how proud I am of the English Department and all of our students and staff who together secured this judgement for us.

Weavers Wildcats Basketball

Basketball this year has been a great experience. Playing full time at an intense level against some of the best schools, not just in our district or county, but across the Midlands.

As a team we always trained hard as our effort in training reflected in games; our first game against Lancaster School really showed our level of ability to play and proved to people that we were a championship contending team with a fantastic 90-61 victory.

We then went on to win the next 2 games and won the group with a positive points difference of 59. We then beat Twycross House School 92-52 at home, then St John Fisher School again at home 5929, before defeating the Big Wood School 84-65.

Our amazing run look set to continue but unfortunately came to an end against Beaumont School from Hertfordshire in the last 8 of the competition where, after overtime, we lost 73-72.

It has been a great year and we would like to thank Mr Higgins, Danny Alexis and the school for supporting us throughout the competition.

The team:

Hayden Alcindor, Luke Alexis, Kamal Brown, Calum Clement, Kieran Cox, Matt Easter, Luke Lewis (Captain), Scotland Maxwell, Conor McHale, Keenan Salmon, Terrell Salmon and Redford Williams.
