The College at Brockport spotlights new dancersThe 11th annual New Dancers

Showcase will be held in The Col-lege at Brockport’s Rose L. Strass-er Studio on Friday and Saturday, November 21 and 22, at 7:30 pm. There is no admission charge, but donations to the Friends of Brock-port Dance scholarship fund will be accepted at the door.

The Strasser Studio is located in Hartwell Hall, on Kenyon Street, on the Brockport campus.

Each of the young artists par-ticipating in the Showcase was se-lected as a student in the Depart-ment of Dance through a demand-ing audition process based on the strength of their previous training and their intellectual and physi-cal promise for success in the field of dance. The concert, which aims to introduce first year students to the Department of Dance and the Brockport community, will include 32 first-year dance majors and mi-nors in the Department of Dance

performing short choreographic works by eight graduate students pursuing MFA or MA degrees. Dances to be presented include an exploration of Native Ameri-can rhythms, a lyrical movement study, a body percussion dance, and swivel-hipped tap work. The dances proudly demonstrate the range and talent of Brockport’s Dance Department.

Karl Rogers, faculty advisor for the New Dancers Showcase says, “Our first year students are a gifted, diverse and vibrant group. They’ve been working all semester and I am excited to watch them share with friends, family and the community. Their rigor and dedi-cation to studying dance at the collegiate level certainly shows.” This year’s concert coordinator is second year MFA candidate Sa-mantha Johnson.
