We have an ambi-tious sustainability roadmap that iden-tifies goals for the next three years.

>>> message from senior managementFor Westinghouse, sustainability is about making decisions that ensure future genera-tions have the same opportunities and quality of life that we do. By doing this, we are ensuring that our actions align with our shared values and our goal of operational excellence. It is no longer enough to provide clean, reliable and safe nuclear energy, but we must ensure that our operations are environmentally friendly.

We have an ambitious sustainability roadmap that identifies goals for the next three years. Six working groups have developed detailed work plans for implementing the roadmap. Much has already been done to put plans and budgets together for specific initiatives, and the working groups will start from that base, helping to focus and pri-oritize those initiatives.

In addition to its more active role in environmental efforts, Westinghouse continues its strong tradition of supporting the communities where our employees live and work. These efforts include employee volunteer days that benefit local charitable and com-munity service groups; employee participation in educational outreach efforts focused on math, science and technology; and financial support for various worthy causes.

We have a vibrant, passionate employee population eager to contribute to sustainabil-ity improvements for Westinghouse and our customers. In the near future, we will be developing a new, more engaging education program to help capture the power of our ingenuity pool and further integrate sustainability decision-making into every function. By providing a simple, straightforward framework for decision-making, we will start to see the culture change that will move us forward.

Westinghouse is the world’s pioneering nuclear energy company and a leading supplier of nuclear power plant products and technologies to utilities throughout the world. Westinghouse technology is the basis for approximately one-half of the world’s operating nuclear plants. Based in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, Westinghouse employs over 14,000 people in 18 countries.

>>> featured sustainability projectThe Westinghouse Specialty Metals Plant in Blairsville, Pennsylvania, initiated a number of energy reduction projects in FY2010. They included converting metal ha-lide lights with more efficient T5HO fluorescent lights, which will result in an estimated energy savings of 35 percent; replacing DC motors on pilger machine main drives with AC technology, resulting in an approximate 30 percent energy savings per machine; and installing new dampers and automatic enthalpy controls on facility HVAC systems, which has an estimated energy savings of about 15 percent. Work will continue on these projects through 2012.

These projects support attainment of our greenhouse gas reduction goals, help improve efficiency and reliability, reduce maintenance costs and positively impact working conditions.

>>> looking forwardWestinghouse seeks continuous improvement in the vitally important area of sustainability. Westinghouse is committed to making its operations environmentally friendly. The company is committed to being a good corporate citizen by encouraging employee volunteerism, supporting science and math education, and providing finan-cial support to worthy causes.

• Five additional U.S. sites certified to ISO 14001 standard; all major Westinghouse manufacturing sites worldwide are now ISO 14001 certified.

• Westinghouse Science Honors Institute (WSHI) conducted for the 54th year; more than 400 students from nearly 90 schools in southwestern Pennsylvania participated. Free program includes 10 lectures on science and engineering topics held on Sat-urday mornings throughout the winter, and a tour of Pennsylvania State University’s research nuclear reactor.

• As of September 2011, the Columbia Fuels manufacturing site eliminated the use of anhydrous ammonia from its manufacturing process, a major step in meeting the site’s environmental goals.

• Headquarters facility in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, certified by U.S. Green Building Council as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) facility. Environmentally friendly building features include an open office design to reduce daytime lighting needs, use of “green” cleaning agents and paper products, and recycled content and local/regional materials in construction.

• Westinghouse N-Vision educational program continued to expand its outreach to stu-dents and teachers in several communities where Westinghouse has a presence. The program includes free, full-day workshops on engineering and energy for students in advanced high school science and math studies, and continuing education work-shops on nuclear energy for teachers.
