• One of the first CDN unis to be accepted

• Allows 1hr or 1GB of video, whichever comes first vs 10mins


YouTube stats• 193 videos posted

• 91,815 upload views

• 20,599 channel views

• 257 channel subscribers


YouTube best practices• File types (.mov, .avi, etc.)

• All videos require titles, descriptions, standard tags, and to be added to at least one playlist


YouTube videos• Feature our own videos and link to

others’ clips via playlists

• Upload hidden videos for the media:b-roll footage, recently of Adrian Owen


Longtail• We automate as much as we can to make

content easy to curate on websites we don’t deal with much.

iTunes U: putting content• Woolamaloo: manage iTunes account

• Metadata needs to be in the file before it goes onto iTunes U, although you can add titles, authors afterwards


Streaming


Purpose for streaming• Currently: convocation

• Future: other big events, presentations


Western’s streaming toolkit• inSinc

• Livestream


inSinc• Vancouver-based

• Carry boxes, cables, cameras, etc. across campus, call them to set up

• Expensive-ish: pay per-convocation

• Real people at company we can talk to


Livestream• Web-based (livestream.com)

• Only gear is camera and a laptop

• Expensive-ish: pay for the month or year instead of each time you want to use it


Livestream• Web-based video suite

• Support for multiple cameras

• Any time comments are made that are negative, they’re sent to senior staff

• Try to leave comments on as much as possible

• Active policing vs. trolling, spamming, things that violate Western’s Acceptable Use Policy (hate speech, etc.)
