Principal's MessageOctober 21, 2016 Hello WTV Families,
The Beaverton School District boundaries have been adopted by theBoard for the Fall of 2017. That will mean many changes for manyfamilies throughout the district, including my own. The West TV area willbe a feeder school for Beaverton High School. Many of you know I was astudent here at West TV, but I also attended Beaverton High School formost of my junior year. One of my most influential teachers in my life wasat BHS Teacher and is one of the reasons I am an educator today. The climate at Beaverton High is one of huge traditions new and old. BHShas an amazing student atmosphere and parents are actively involved. West TV has several current and previous staff members with childrenwho are or have attended BHS. Parents and students love BHS. Anne Erwin, BHS Principal, would like to welcome West TV families intothe BHS community and has shared the following information.
Beaverton High School At BHS we strive to genuinely live out our four core values:
Excellence Inspires Us Learning Transforms Us Community Connects Us Tradition Unites Us
Over the next year we look forward to having incoming families experience eachof these values personally. Our efforts to support incoming students and families

Early Release/Teacher Collaboration 2017-2018 Starting in September 2017, the Beaverton School District will implement a90-minute early release on Wednesday afternoons to allow teachers timeto collaborate and participate in professional development opportunities. The schedule change is a result of the new contract between the Districtand the Beaverton Education Association. The agreement adds ninestudent days over the next three years. We recognize the impact this change will have on families and childcaremay be a challenge. We are exploring opportunities for additional afterschool activities with the Beaverton Education Foundation and othercommunity partners. The District recognizes this fact and has already begun the planningprocess. Some of those steps include weekly planning meetings, conducting parent focus groups, and regular communications about thechange. Much of the work is focused on determining how to supportfamilies and students in the transition. The District has developed an Early Release/Teacher Collaborationwebpage. There is a link to this page on our school webpage in the“School Resources” box. The webpage includes an FAQ that may containanswers to many of your questions. Planning for Early Release/Teacher Collaboration will continue to takeplace throughout the 2016-2017 school year. Please check the District’sBSD Briefs newsletter, our school newsletter and the EarlyRelease/Teacher Collaboration webpage for updates. making to improve academic achievement for each student in the District. We are making progress. State report cards began fifteen years ago when the 1999 OregonLegislature passed a law requiring every public school and district toreceive a report from the Oregon Department of Education about how theyare performing overall. Given the recent passage of the Every StudentSucceeds Act (ESSA) and the expiration of Oregon's ESEA flexibilitywaiver on August 1, 2016, the State of Oregon will not assign an overallrating to schools for the 2015 16 school year. Our school ratings in theareas of student achievement and student growth on state assessmentsand graduation rates are available in our Report Card Rating Detail Sheetat the link above.
