Low Carbon Funding
• How I access funds and Funding Information
• Horizon 2020 calls
• Climate KIC calls
• Alternative Funds
Accessing Funding: Info Days in Brussels
• H2020 Info Day - Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy – calls EE 8 & EE 11 - 28 March 2014, 9h00-14h00

Accessing Funding: Networks
Accessing Funding: Horizon Participant Portal
EE7: Enhancing the capacity of public authorities to plan and implement sustainable energy policies and measures Clear link to Transition Cities and its key themes Targeted at public / city authorities Multi-disciplinary approach; engaging stakeholder and end-users; different financial and investment models Budget: 1.5 - 2m from EU EE9: Enhancing stakeholders to assist public authorities in the definition and implementation of sustainable energy policies and measures Not as much a priority as above but could be a model for developing MTH approach to engaging city stakeholders e.g. companies, NGOs etc. B: Heating and cooling EE14: Removing market barriers to the uptake of efficient heating and cooling solutions Clear link to the energy networks aspects of Transition Cities Frankfurt to lead given centrality of this issue to their 2050 targets Budget: 1.5 – 2m from EU
Horizon Calls
SCC1: Smart Cities and Communities solutions integrating energy, transport and ICT sectors through lighthouse (large-scale demonstration – first of the kind) Clear link to Transition Cities but also SCS platform – three key areas are low-energy districts; integrated infrastructure and sustainable urban mobility Likely to be very competitive. Large budget: 18-25m from EU WP: Smart, Green and Integrated Transport Two calls look appropriate on urban mobility – one for 2014, one for 2015: MG.5.1-2014 Transforming the use of conventionally fuelled vehicles in urban areas MG.5.5-2015 Demonstrating and testing innovative solutions for cleaner and better urban transport and mobility Looking for 4-5 cities Cooperation with China would be an advantage Potential linkup with Berlin, Zurich etc Budget: 12-18m from EU WP: Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials WASTE-1-2014: Moving towards a circular economy through industrial symbiosis System innovation; coordination between a number of stakeholder; active involvement of SMEs International Synergies, EURISA etc Budget: 8-10m from EU
Climate KIC Calls
8 platforms of Climate KIC: Bio economy, Sustainable City Systems, Transforming Built Environment, Climate Adaptation Services, Greenhouse Gass Emissions MRV, Land and Water, Industrial Symbiosis, Making Transitions Happen
RIC plays a large role in Making Transitions Happen. Jon Bloomfield is Co-Chair Making Transitions Happen is currently looking for Pathfinder project ideas in two key thematic areas; User Engagement This is a key cross-cutting strand for the MTH platform. The platform will develop a portfolio of models, methods and approaches related to user engagement in different settings e.g. household and community energy schemes, neighborhood mobility schemes, energy management in commercial and public buildings
and Financial Models The development of new financial and business models in key areas together with new models of procurement which stimulate innovation
Deadline 19th March for outline – full proposals for September if invited The aim of our Pathfinder projects is to investigate innovation idea(s) and confirm whether there is a potential demand for these to be exploited
Industrial Symbiosis (IS)
•Focus areas BP15: •• future feedstock (raw materials and energy) •• cross-industry efficiency •• new products and applications •• circular economy
Sustainable City Systems (SCS)
•The main focus area of the SCS platform for BP15 is: •• resource efficient cities
Transforming the Built Environment (TBE)
•The strategic focus of the TBE platform in 2015 will be on refurbishment.
•This will include the following aspects: •• Economic models to finance massive scale refurbishments (including the identification of the sectors of respective countries building stocks that are to be targeted and how to evaluate them) • •• Refurbishment technologies (disruptive and non-disruptive as long as a massive up-scaling is feasible) • •• Behavioural parameters (tenant involvement to improve acceptance as well as behavioural parameters that interact with the performance of the refurbishment i.e. in line with the platforms overall focus on interaction of technology and socio cultural aspects)
Adaptation Services (AS)
•Focus areas BP15: •• Climate information - developing (scaling up) relevant usage of climate and climate change information by society and business •• Adaptation services for different sectors - developing services and products helping various economic sectors adapting to climate change
Greenhouse Gas Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (GHG)
• Focus areas BP15: • •• Forestry and agriculture •• Point sources and fugitive emissions • •• Cities and territories •• New business models on mitigation
Non-Horizon Calls
• EU ICI Educational Cooperation Programme (ICI-ECP) - Joint Degree and Mobility projects with Australia, Japan and Republic of Korea
• ERDF and ESF through the ESIF framework
• Erasmus+ http://new.eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=OJ:JOC_2013_362_R_NS0004&from=EN
