February Fellowship Dinner
and White Elephant Auction
C ome join your favorite congregation for potluck dinner on
Sunday, February 17th for a wonderful meal and then the
annual White Elephant Auction. Gary Stroud will make a return
appearance as our auctioneer. The Charter Members of West Lake
Christian Church came up with the idea of a White Elephant auction to
raise donations for the Week of Compassion (WOC) offering over and
above our tithes and normal offerings. WOC is a mission fund of the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). For seven decades, WOC has been
responding to people and whole communities that have been displaced by
the catastrophes of war, famine, natural disasters like fire, earthquake,
tornados, volcanos, tsunamis and more. The Church is called daily to
follow Jesus’ command to feed the hungry and care for our brothers.
There are White Elephant gifts that return every year. Maybe you could
donate a pontoon boat ride, pie from the “pie lady”, dinner with a friend
you haven’t yet met, 1 hour of leaf raking, a ride to the doctor’s office, a
gift certificate or some funny (obnoxious) gift that strikes your funny bone.
Gifts are only limited by your imaginations. Don’t forget the coveted White
Elephant with his $50.00 bill. Please make sure your gift is wrapped for
the auction.
Mark FEBRUARY 17th on your calendar! Stay for the
dinner, bring your favorite dish and join us for the
auction to help people around the world whom you have
never met. Remember if you are unable to attend, there
will be a special offering envelope in your bulletin that
Sunday. We look forward to seeing you for this fun
event!

Elders Plan A Souper Sunday!
This Super Bowl Sunday, February 3, our Elders are
asking the congregation to bring cans of soup with a
dollar bill (or higher) wrapped around it with a rubber
band.
Souper Bowl of Caring is a national event to turn our
nation’s biggest weekend of football into its largest weekend of giving. The
soup and money will all be donated to the Community For Christ food
pantry in Sunrise Beach.
Let’s all help make this a Super, Souper Bowl of Caring!

Matthew 28:19;
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit,
You may be familiar with the “Great Commission” that
Christ left us to accomplish. To share our faith with
others so that others might know Jesus as Lord. Yet it
often seems rather staggering, “make disciples of all
nations?” How will I ever reach so many people? No,
it’s not someone else’s job.
The good news is, you are not responsible for sharing
the gospel with everyone in the world. You’re just
responsible for sharing it with all those in your corner
of the world.
We don’t have to go out knocking on doors, but we
need to learn to take advantage of those moments
when doors are opened for us.
We meet people every day who don’t go to church,
maybe have never had the good news of being loved
by their Creator shared with them. Who will share the
news with them if not us? I’m not asking you to give
your testimony to everyone you meet, but I am asking
you to be aware of those you see daily, weekly or
maybe monthly and begin to develop more of a
relationship with them than “hi, how are you?” As we
get to know people those opportunities arise to ask
questions and share answers.
1 Peter 3:15; tells us, “But in your hearts revere Christ
as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to
everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope
that you have. But do this with gentleness and
respect.”
Everyone needs to have the hope we find in Jesus
Christ, but telling someone what the scriptures say
about hope isn’t enough. They must experience that
hope through us.
Live your faith and be intentional with those you meet.
Who knows you might find a new friend?
Love in Jesus,
Kelly
From your BOARD MODERATOR
John Harris
Here we are already into the second month of
2019. We are off and running full speed ahead with
so much going on at our church. In addition to our
regular church services and activities, we have a cou-
ple of additional events happening in February: Pizza
with the Pastor and the Fourth Annual Leadership
Training Conference.
Also, your General Board held a meeting in Janu-
ary and will continue to meet each month throughout
the year. I would like to highlight some points of con-
sideration regarding the General Board. The General
Board is elected by the congregation each year. The
purpose of the General Board is to serve the congre-
gation. The General Board is responsible to the con-
gregation, and it is responsible for conducting all legal
business matters, programs, and financial planning/
spending as approved by the congregation. When the
General Board meets each month, it reviews our fi-
nancial reports, church staff activities, health con-
cerns for various church members, committee status
reports, and various other church/business activities.
The following are only a few of the items that were
discussed that may be of interest to you from our Jan-
uary General Board meeting: 1) we are making pro-
gress on purchasing an AED (Automated External De-
fibrillator) and necessary training; 2) looking into the
cost of ‘gluten-free’ wafers for Communion; 3) order-
ing of new Lent Devotionals, which will be placed in
the entry way of the church prior to Ash Wednesday
for members to take a free copy; 4) began efforts for
the Second Annual VBS (Vacation Bible School) Chari-
ty Golf Tournament; 5) discussion for finalizing the up-
dates to our WLCC Church Constitution and Bylaws;
and 6) discussion of changing from calendar year to
fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) for the church. Please
note that the updates to the WLCC Constitution and
Bylaws (including a discussion of the change from cal-
endar year to fiscal year and how it will benefit the
church) will be presented to the congregation for re-
view and approval at a meeting to be announced in
the near future.
I pray we will continue to put Christ first in all our
efforts as we love God and share His Love with others!
Blessings,
John

CWF started the new year with a great January
meeting. We had some new ladies attend and I was
proud to see how well they were received and
welcomed.
Many ladies shared this time regarding how God
had used them during the week to display some
Christian Love; I call this “When God Winks at You”.
So what are God Winks? Well it’s how God speaks
directly to “You” through the power of the Spirit.
There are times within a routine day that suddenly
God will use you to help another human being.
Sometimes they are people you know, other times
they may be complete strangers, but you are there to
help.
When we open our hearts to be used for God’s
Glory, it is revealed in ways we could never imagine.
How great it feels to help someone else which is
Christ ultimate love pouring out to another.
Have you had a God Wink Lately?
Come share your time and thoughts with us at
CWF. We welcome all ladies.
Happy Valentine’s Day,
Pam Folker / CWF President
Christian
FEBRUARY 2019
NEXT BOARD MEETING
THURSDAY,
FEBRUARY 14, 2019
11:00 a.m.
IN LOEHR CENTER
New Year-New Opportunities The new year is a great time to make some
new discoveries at West Lake Christian Church.
Did you know we have a Craft Shop in the
Loehr Center? Mary Ellen Flinn and Diane
Gilmore are willing to show you around on
Sunday mornings, Monday mornings or anytime
you make an appointment with them. Think
about a gift you need to buy.
How do we get the items in the Craft Shop,
you ask? Starting in March, anyone who would
like to have some fun is invited to come to the
Craft Room in the lower level every Monday
morning at 9:30. No talent is needed. All
materials are supplied. Lots of laughter ensues
as we paint and glue to make all kinds of
marvelous crafts.
Each Friday morning from 9:30 to noon in the
library a whole different opportunity happens.
Diane Gilmore is kind enough to bring paint,
paper, brushes and ideas that she shares with
anyone courageous enough to try a new
experience. Watercolor is a painting media that
is a challenge for even experienced artists,
however Diane can guide the most artistically
challenged to produce a work of beauty. Just
come and get started on a work of art!
And the biggest surprise for many is the fact
that there is an exercise room down by the
church office. It has 2 treadmills, 2 stationary
bikes, a stepper, 2 Healthriders and weights.
There is a VCR/DVD player for aerobic exercise.
It is open to be used anytime the church is open.
Several people have expressed a desire to meet
for exercise on a regular basis. If you would like
to participate in a group event, call Carroll Rinker
at 573-286-5105.
Make a New Year’s Resolution to get out and
join some of these activities.

How wonderful to have a church family who
care! Thanks for the prayers and expressions of
sympathy I received on the news of my brother,
David Yordy's sudden illness and death. Thanks
also to those who filled in for us during our two trips
to Illinois. May God bless you for caring.
Mary Elliott
Thank you so much for the gifts, cards, cash and
delicious treats that was given to me this past
Christmas season. I truly enjoy playing the piano for
all of you, I thank Chris for getting me involved with
this wonderful church.
Blessings,
Deb Bowman
I am overpowered by the Love shown with the
Christmas gifts received. It was so much fun to open
the surprises. Thanks so much.
I have two things to be very thankful for with this
message. Let me begin by thanking each of you who
contributed to the outpouring of gifts to me this
year. I receive much JOY as I partake in our Services
by playing the piano. You are responsible for that
JOY. AND...in light of my recent health scare...thanks
to all of you for your prayers, concerns, and what
some of you did to help me. I was scared. You saw
my need, called the Emergency Personnel, comforted
me, prayed for me...and you tried to find that elusive
aspirin. You went with me to the Hospital...you visited
me...you sent cards...you called, but most of all you
prayed. God heard our need and answered.
I truly am in good hands with my
Church family. Thanks for being
here and doing God's work.
God is indeed good.
