West Humber is a dynamic secondary school that fosters activelearning through interaction and involvement. Students and staffare most proud of the school culture. ACADEMIC PROGRAMSOur regular and Enriched Math,Science, Technology (MST) programsallow for the development ofacademic skills that lead to studentsuccess in university, college,apprenticeship or employment. Ourcomprehensive curricula preparesstudents for a changing world by developing skills in problemsolving, leadership, critical and creative thinking, and newtechnologies, while adapting to social change and promoting ahealthy lifestyle. High level academic programming has led ourgraduates to success at university and college in math, science,business, technology, world studies, humanities, the arts andinternational languages.

MATHEMATICS & SCIENCEWe offer all the courses in the math and science curriculaand use SMART boards for enhanced learning. There areopportunities for students to demonstrate their skills beyond theclassroom by participating at Mc Master, York and Guelphuniversities for engineering, science and math competitions. Wealso have the FIRST Robotics program - TEAM 1514 who competeannually.
ENGLISH, SOCIAL SCIENCES & HUMANITIESOur courses offer exciting and relevant reading materials whichprovoke insightful discussions to help our students understandfactors that contribute to social change and encourage them tobecome active citizens. Students will learn to develop strong writing,critical thinking and research skills through a variety of media.
BUSINESS, COMPUTER STUDIES & TECHNOLOGYOur courses in these disciplines allow students to develop strongleadership, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Classroomsare equipped with computers where students have an opportunity towork with current software programs and use new technologies. Ethical business practices and social activism are incorporated intothe curriculum.
THE ARTSWe offer dynamic visual and media arts, photography, drama, danceand music programs. Students can participate in professionalworkshops and field trips. The Steel Band is often invited to performat professional caliber shows and we have one of the few Drumlineprograms in the TDSB. Our Motown-Jazz band combine anexciting blend of pop, funk, jazz and steel drums.

Student Life - Where You Belong
Student life is vibrant throughout the halls at West Humber.Our athletic and co-curricular programs offer students manyopportunities to pursue personal interests and develop theirleadership and interpersonal skills. The Physical and HealthEducation department organize an extensive intramuralsports program for all interested students. Our ATHLETICPROGRAM has had many teams compete at City andOntario Championships, demonstrating their goal forexcellence and success. Staff and students are activelyinvolved in organizations such as: Student LeadershipCouncil, Multicultural Show, Music, Robotics, Drama,Science Club, and many more.
What Sets Us Apart
It is the positive, collaborative and caring environment thatsets us apart. The staff and students have a strong sense ofcommunity and tradition. The school uniform identifiesstudents as members of the school community and sets aprofessional tone within the school. Because we are acomposite school, we are able to offer our students a varietyof academic, athletic and co-curricular programs where theycan develop the necessary skills to be a positve and activecitizen in their community. The West Humber Community extends itself to include avariety of local organizations which work together to offerour students additional resources and support as theypursue post-secondary education, apprenticeship oremployment. Partnerships with Pathways to Education,Braeburn Community Centre and Microskills offer a widevariety of tutoring and mentoring programs. As well, FirstGeneration Project with Humber College and NewcomerServices for Youth assist our newly immigrated students tobecome a part of our community.
Parent and Community Engagement
Our parents and community leaders are dedicated to helpingstudents succeed. The chair of our School Council is a parent andmember of the community who speaks on behalf of our students’families. School Councils are an excellent way for parents to getinvolved in their child’s education. All parents are welcome to attendour monthly meetings. Some of the topics discussed include:student achievement, curriculum priorities, school safety,co-curricular programs, fundraising and the school budget.
Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety ofopportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices. Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice,access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financialstability.
