We enjoyed each other’s company on Saturday, January 16th and got to share an excellent lunch to-gether at La Trattoria in Carrollton. We had 14 people show up and this year we all fit at one very long table. The weather was pretty decent and some folks drove their collector vehicles. Our follow-up dessert and coffee break around 1:30 was a nice prelude to the AACA slide show at the Novaks, preceded for some by a brief basement garage tour. Our group had grown to 17 for this event and most of the game room was getting pretty full. Our presenter Gary Moyses really knows how to pack ‘em in. We all had a good time watching Gary’s slides from 1971 and 1972 and hearing his tales of working in and around the pit areas with race car legends like Al Unser and A.J. Foyt speeding by at 190 miles an hour. It was amazing how vivid Gary’s recollections were and almost as astounding to hear others present

chime in with their additional stories and memories of these great glory years at the 500. I learned a lot by listening to the exchanges among Gary, Phil, Evio, Rick and John. It was almost like a trip back in time. Thanks very much, Gary. Parked out front we had the Duncan’s vintage Mustang looking very sharp, along with Geoff’s very sporty and rare propane-powered Morgan Plus 8, top down of course in January. Jim and Gerry drove their reliable Ford Falcon convertible (top up), and Phil came over on his son Evan’s Italian-engineered Sears 4-cycle motorbike. Thanks for joining us for either or both of the day’s events. Hope you had a good time. Debbie and I did. It’s always nice to see our gang together, old cars or not.

One of our charities for 2015 was the German Shepherd Rescue of Georgia. German Shepherd Dog Rescue Group of Georgia, Inc. is a state licensed non-profit rescue organization established in 2004. Their mission is to find loving permanent homes for aban-doned and surrendered GSDs in Atlanta and surround-ing areas. They are entirely operated by volunteers and they utilize foster homes around Metro Atlanta and the north Georgia area to care for these dogs until their adoption so our donation will go a long way toward helping these wonderful animals. No Shepherd is turned away. Even heart worm positive Shepherds are rescued. In 2015, there were a number of heart-worm positive dogs. Currently, nine of seventeen dogs in foster care are heartworm positive so the West Georgia AACA donation will go a long way to help with those expenses. They have vets that volun-teer their time but the drugs and treatment of heart-worm positive dogs is expensive. Every one of these dogs returned to good health and have been adopted to loving homes. GSDRG has a strict approval process for potential adoptive homes. References and home inspection are required and most foster dogs remain in foster care an average of one month or less before they are adopted. All dogs receive veterinary care and all vaccinations before going into their foster homes and they screen all

rescue dogs for temperament. Sphinx (pictured) had only been in foster care about a week when Liz visited him in his foster home. He is heart-worm positive but luckily they caught it in the early stages so his treatment will be much easier than others. If you're interested in adoption or being a foster home, visit their website at http://www.gashepherd.org.

Can you tell how happy Triton is to be out of the shelter? This strapping young boy is very intelligent, and has been working hard on obedience and leash work. He is currently being evaluated to go into training as a service for a disabled Vet.

Liz met "Sphinx" after he had been rescued for one week. He was very shy but with encouragement came close to get a treat. It was evident that he had been on his own most of his one year of life. Now he has settled into his foster home and is very happy to find that people think he's wonderful!

Wounded Warrior Garage is an organization of veterans working for veterans. It is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit auto restora-tion shop. The company is engaged in the restoration of classic cars and trucks, hot rods and street rods for the benefit of our wounded warriors and veterans. They provide on the job training for veteran apprentices in welding, metal fabrication, body work, rust repair, automotive electronics and mechanics. They modify veteran’s vehicles for hand controls, wheel-chair lifts etc., whatever it takes to enable the vet to operate the vehicle. They also provide service facilities for vets who want to perform general maintenance on their own vehicles but don’t have the means because of their injury. For those veteran apprentices who show aptitude and desire, they provide scholarships to trade schools so they can pursue a career in automotive technology, motorcycle mechanics or marine mechanics. Mental health counseling for our veteran ap-prentices and employees who might be suffering from PTSD or injury related depression is also part of their program. Funding for their program comes from the sale of the project cars, private donations and grants.

Cavalry Children’s Home in Powder Springs, Georgia, received a $700 donation from our club for another year. The home has been the home to many children ranging in ages from six to eighteen. In order to maintain a home-like atmosphere, the children may continue to live in the Home as long as there is a need for them to. Presently, one young man is currently attending Chattahoochee Technical College and a young lady who recently graduated from high school will be attending there in the fall. The children are actively involved in the com-munity and participate in church as well as local community and school activities. As they grow older and more responsible they are al-lowed to have part-time jobs in the community. Since the Home's beginning in 1966, they have offered a home to well over 400 children.
