Page 1: West Geauga School District Board President Michael Kilroy resigns: Letter to West Geauga Community members regarding "Operation Transparency"

WEST G OPERATION TRANSPARENCY To Our West G Neighbors: We, as many of the constituents of the West Geauga School District, have a great concern for the success of our heralded school system. Since January 1, 2014, when the present School Board assumed the reins of the Board of Education, there have been a multitude of events that have been alarming. The following are just a sampling:

-Replacing the Superintendent at a cost estimated to be in excess of $150,000. The Board has yet to divulge the actual cost. The Superintendent had one more year left on his contract, with no apparent job deficiencies. In fact, during his tenure, he received positive evaluations and the School Board received numerous awards. -Reducing open enrollment income by approximately $200,000 per year. -Excessive use of paid legal counsel when the County Prosecutor is available at no cost. We are the only school system, to our knowledge, that has legal counsel at every meeting, and who prepares all agendas. -Exercising powers and authority not authorized by law. -Complete disregard for the requirements of the Ohio Open Meetings Act and Public Records Act. -Steering a course that will require the school board to seek a NEW levy in excess of 6.8 mills in three years. The budget projections prepared in October 2013 indicated a surplus, with no need to seek additional funds for seven (7) years.

Our mission is NOT to undermine the School Board, but, on the contrary, to help them to do the job for which they were elected, and also to keep the public informed of the School Board’s activity. In the near future, and from time to time, we will report on the actions of the Board. It is important for us to compile a list of concerned citizens. If you know of anyone that should be added to our files, or if you have any questions, please contact any of the undersigned. In the meantime we urge you to attend School Board meetings.
