Stay at the University until SafeDo not attempt to return home until aftershocks calm

down and the safety of your method to return home has

been ensured. Instead, stay at the university or

evacuation site.

If the earthquake occurs when you are on your way

to/from university, the guideline for walking home is

within 20 km.

●Be aware of your surroundings, and prioritize ensuring your safety.

●Move away from walls, poles, vending machines and the like, be careful of falling objects, and move to an open area such as a park or square if possible.

●Determine whether you should return home, go to the university, or evacuate to the nearest safe location.

●Correctly assess the extent of damage.●Move to the evacuation site you have discussed with your

family beforehand. However, prioritize safety and consider the state of your surroundings and where the disaster occurred, and go to a different evacuation site if necessary.

●While evacuating, follow directions from police and fire fighters.

●When a large number of people attempt to return home at once, many areas become congested, and it is important to remain patient. Confirm the situation around you before returning home.

●Walking speed during a disaster is approximately 2.5 km/h, meaning it will take 4 hours to walk 10 km.

●It is dangerous to move after sunset, with the risk of becoming targeted by criminals, and so avoid moving alone.

POINT POINTPOINT POINT

If an Earthquake Occurs●Remain Calm

The tremors of a major earthquake are significant, but if you panic it will only make you more scared, so act calmly.

●Avoid Dangerous ObjectsMove away from windows and shelves, and other objects that might shatter or have their contents fall out. When performing labs or practical courses, there may be dangerous objects in the vicinity, so leave quickly.

●Protect Yourself from Falling ObjectsProtect your head and limbs by crawling under a desk or covering your head with a bag. If in an area with no danger of falling objects, sit down.

●Find an ExitTo ensure it is possible to escape from fires or other secondary disasters, people by doors should open them and establish an exit. (Only if safely possible)

●Wait for Tremors to CalmEnsure your safety, and then wait for the tremors to end.

When the Earthquake Subsides●Do Not Rush to the Exit

If everyone rushes to the exit, people may be trampled, so calmly find a safe space to exit.

●Check Your SurroundingsIf there is no danger of objects around you collapsing or falling, stay where you are. If you determine there is danger, move to a safe area.

●Initial Fire ExtinguishingIf fires have occurred, help put out the fire to the extent that is possible without endangering yourself. If extinguishing it seems unlikely, quickly move away from the fire.

●Aid the InjuredIf there are any injured people, help them with the support of people around to the extent that is possible without endangering yourself and contact staff.

Things to Remember when Evacuating●Evacuate Calmly, Following Directions from

Staff and Emergency AnnouncementsTake whatever is nearby that you can wear easily, but leave any items that could slow evacuation. Always wear shoes to avoid injury from shattered glass and the like.

●If There Are FiresCover your mouth with a towel or other cloth to avoid inhaling smoke.

●Use StairwaysDo not use elevators, use stairways instead.

Elevators will stop and open doors automatically at the nearest floor when an earthquake of 4 or upper is detected. Afterwards, please use stairs to evacuate. In the event you are trapped in an elevator, pushing the emergency button will enable you to contact the university Security Center. Wait calmly for rescue.
